“No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign warns of surge in executions in Iran as it enters 67th week across 41 prisons

The sixty-seventh week of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign, protesting widespread executions in Iran, continued this week in 41 prisons across the country. The campaign, which has been going on since January 2024, has gained significant momentum, with detainees organizing weekly acts of defiance against the Iranian regime’s systematic execution of political prisoners and other detainees.

Part of the statement from the sixty-seventh week of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign reads:

“In the current situation, where the Iranian regime is facing domestic and international deadlocks, it uses execution as its main tool of repression to prevent the formation of protest movements and uprisings by the fed-up populace. Therefore, it is essential that international human rights institutions and organizations compel their governments to condition their relations with the Iranian government on the abolition of the death penalty, because the weapon of execution in the hands of this tyranny is more dangerous than any other weapon.”

The text of the statement by striking prisoners during the sixty-seventh week of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign is as follows:

The regime of execution and repression hanged 29 prisoners in the past week

On April 29, 15 prisoners were executed, and on May 3, another nine prisoners were executed. Thus, since the beginning of the Persian year [March 20, 2025], 154 individuals have been hanged.
In a savage act, the tyrannical rulers shot and killed a citizen named Azim Farkhond with live ammunition. He was participating with a group of people in Dezful in a protest rally against the execution of two prisoners. The “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign considers him the first martyr of the “No to Executions” movement since the campaign began. We honor his memory and emphasize that as long as this government is in power, it will not cease executions at any cost.

The “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign warns that in the current situation, where the Iranian regime faces domestic and international deadlocks, it uses execution as its main tool of repression to prevent protest movements and uprisings by the fed-up populace. Therefore, it is essential that international human rights institutions and organizations compel their governments to condition their relations with the Iranian government on the abolition of the death penalty, because the weapon of execution in the hands of this tyranny is more dangerous than any other weapon.

On the other hand, we continue to call on all segments of society to stand united and speak with one voice against executions in every possible way.
