Iran’s “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign expands to 40 prisons on 64th week

On April 15, 2025, prisoners across Iran participated in the 64th week of “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign by going on hunger strike to protest the regime’s widespread executions in Iranian prisons.

With the addition of female prisoners in Zahedan Prison and inmates in Azbaram Prison in Lahijan, the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign has now spread to 40 prisons nationwide.

In their statement, the prisoners participating in the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign warned that from April 8 to April 14, 2025, at least 18 Baluch prisoners have been executed in Iran. The prisoners warned civil society, human rights defenders, and international institutions that any inaction or disregard in dealing with this authoritarian regime will result in more oppressed people and prisoners being killed.

The 64th week of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign in 40 prisons

With the addition of the women’s ward of Zahedan Prison and Azbaram Prison Lahijan to the campaign, the 64th week of “No to Executions Tuesdays” has expanded to 40 prisons.

The beleaguered regime, entangled in both domestic and international crises, has intensified executions as a routine method of suppressing uprisings; on just April 8 and 9, 2025, it executed 11 and 18 prisoners, respectively.

Among those executed were five political and religious prisoners—Malek Ali Fadaei Nasab, Farhad Shakeri, Taj Mohammad Khormali, Abdolrahman Gorgij, and Abdolhakim Azim Gorgij—who were hanged in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad after enduring 10 years of imprisonment and torture.

Additionally, on the morning of Monday, April 14, 2025, a 22-year-old Baluch prisoner named Ali Dehani—who had been arrested during the nationwide protests in November 2022 following the brutal massacre of nearly 100 people in Zahedan and Khash known as “Bloody Friday”—was executed in Zahedan Central Prison on charges of killing four regime agents in Bampur. He was denied a fair trial.

A juvenile offender named Behzad, who was under the legal age at the time of the alleged crime, was also executed in Gonbad-e Kavus Prison.

From April 8 to April 14, 2025, over 18 Baluch prisoners were executed.

The scale of severe human rights violations witnessed daily in Iran is a stark warning to society, human rights activists, and international institutions that any failure to act or to hold the authoritarian regime accountable will result in more oppressed people and prisoners losing their lives.

The “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign, which this week expanded to 40 prisons with the addition of female prisoners in Zahedan and inmates in Azbaram Prison in Lahijan, continues to resist the inhumane death penalty with all the means at its disposal. It calls on all international human rights and political organizations to be the voice of the Iranian people and prisoners. Dozens of political and religious prisoners and thousands of ordinary prisoners are under death sentences, all deprived of even the most basic right to a fair trial.

The prisoners participating in the 62nd week of the “No to Executions Tuesdays” hunger strike are from Evin Prison (women’s ward, wards 4 and 8), Ghezel Hesar Prison (units 3 and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Greater Tehran Prison, Arak Prison, Khorramabad Prison, Asadabad Prison in Isfahan, Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan, Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz, Nezam Prison in Shiraz, Bam Prison, Kahnuj Prison, Mashhad Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Lakan Prison in Rasht (men’s and women’s wards), Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, Kamyaran Prison, Tabas Prison, Khorin Prison in Varamin, Rudsar Prison in Gilan, Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz, Ramhormoz Prison, Talesh Prison, Adelabad Prison in Shiraz (men’s and women’s wards), Joveyn Prison, Borazjan Prison, Gonbad-e Kavus Prison, Dizel Abad Prison in Kermanshah, Chobindar Prison in Qazvin, Miandoab Prison, Zahedan Prison, and Azbaram Prison in Lahijan.
