Various protest rallies in Iran

Reported by PMOI/MEK

Iran, Jan. 1, 2018 – Numerous cities across Iran witnessed a variety of protest rallies on Tuesday. In the town of Varzaneh of Isfahan Province, central Iran, hardworking farmers took to the streets once again, protesting the policies of Iranian regime authorities rerouting local river waters for government and Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) projects. These initiatives are leaving locals deprived of any water for their lands.

The farmers were seen marching in the streets of Varzaneh and chanting slogans against the regime.

“[Iranian regime President Hassan] Rouhani, you liar; what happened to our Zayanderud?” referring to the local river.

“The water of Zayanderud is our sovereign right.”

In the northern city of Rasht, clients of the Caspian credit firm, known for its association to the IRGC, rallied on Tuesday outside this company’s main branch, demanding their stolen savings returned.

Their slogans included:

“The chant of every Iranian, Down with Rouhani”

“Down with this deceptive government”

Hundreds of retired army personnel who are members of home funds and have made the initial down payments for their homes rallied on Tuesday despite the façade of promises and pledges by the Iranian regime. After years of waiting, these individuals have yet to be provided any land to make a home of their own. This rally was held outside a judiciary building near the city park behind the Toopkhane district.

In another area of the Iranian capital, contract workers involved with the municipality rallied on Tuesday, protesting not receiving their paychecks. This gathering was held outside the municipality and the regime’s city council office.

Truckers in numerous cities of Iran launched a nationwide strike, protesting high tire prices and low wages. Reports indicate Iranian regime authorities had ordered empty trucks on the roads from Zahedan to Taftan in southeast Iran to claim there was no such strike and this protest movement has ended.

The strike was witnessed in dozens of cities, including Tehran, Sari, Sanandaj, Dorud, Kangavar, Bushehr, Isfahan, Bandar Abbas, Malayer, Yazd, Ardakan, Urmia, Neyshabur, Sabzevar, and Chermahin. This movement more than 30 cities in 21 of Iran’s 31 provinces.

In other reports of protests across the country, family members of jailed National Steel Group workers in Ahvaz, southwest Iran, rallied outside the Khuzestan Province Governor’s office demanding their loved ones’ release.

Their signs read:

“Dad, I’m waiting for you”

“Workers place is in factories”

“Release jailed workers”

“Release my father”

“Workers in jail while thieves roam free”

“Economic austerities mean workers in prison”

“Why is my son in prison?”

The families are saying they have checked with all officials and authorities to have their loved ones released, but their requests have fallen on deaf ears and they have only heard lies. These families are calling on all people to support them and join their ranks in these protests.

These National Steel Group employees were apprehended following their 38-day strike and protests. These arrests began at midnight on December 17, during which 42 steelworkers were arrested. A number of those detained were released in the following days and the remaining are held in other detention centers.
