Mahshahr locals protest for the second consecutive day

Reported by PMOI/MEK

Iran, July 19, 2019 – On Tuesday, July 16, a group people from the southwestern Iranian city of Mahshahr rallied for the second day in front of local mayor’s office, protesting the so-called state-division and setting the limit between two cities of Port of Mahshahr and Port of Khomeini. The protestors closed the road to the mayor’s office.

They also warned the regime of the possible consequences of the plan, which will be similar to the scenario in the city of Kazerun. Last year, protests about the divisions in Kazerun turned into large anti-regime protests and resulted in heavy clashes between locals and the regime's security forces. The protesters called for regime change and the overthrow of the mullahs. Security forces opened fire and killed several protesters.

Previously, a member of the Iranian parliament from Mahshahr spoke of the last stage of declaring Port of Khomeini as a city. For years, setting the limits and boundaries between the two cities of Mahshar and Khomeini has been the source of dispute, causing various protest by the young inhabitants and social rights activists.
