Iran, July 11, 2019 – Iran’s regime has taken the second step to decrease its commitments under the nuclear deal signed by P5+1 and Iran in 2015, formally known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or by its acronym, JCPOA. The step was announced through contradicting sentences and shaky words on July 7 by Ali Rabie, spokesman of the mullahs’ government, Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Behrooz Kamalvandi, deputy of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization.

“This process, to reduce the Islamic Republic’s commitments to the JCPOA, is actually a move to save the deal, and not to dismantle it,” said Araqchi.

“Our assessment is that the IAEA Board of Governors will definitely accept the logic of the Islamic Republic,” he added referring to the International Atomic Energy Agency meeting held on the request by the US.

Araqchi also made remarks about French President Emmanuel Macron’s phone call with Iranian regime President Hassan Rouhani.

“Mr. Macron and Dr. Rouhani had a good conversation last night and agreed that the groundwork for a new round of talks between the two sides must be formed,” he said hypocritically.

However, Reuters’ report on the talks between President Macron and Rouhani differed from Araghchi’s explanations.

Macron warned Rouhani of the consequences of weakening the nuclear deal, Reuters added. Macron told his Iranian counterpart on Saturday he was deeply concerned by any further weakening of the 2015 nuclear deal and warned that consequences would inevitably follow any such move, the report highlighted.

European diplomats have said that further breaches of the accord could see the European parties to the deal – France, Britain, and Germany – trigger a dispute resolution mechanism within the accord that could eventually lead to the re-imposition of United Nations sanctions, Reuters added. This mechanism was launched this week by the European side.

Iran’s expected announcement comes at a time of sharply increased U.S.-Iranian confrontation, a year after Washington quit the pact and re-imposed sanctions that had been lifted under the accord in exchange for Tehran’s curbing its nuclear work.

Therefore, the move by the clerical regime to step out of the circle is considered as a self-destructive policy by the mullahs. It will not take long before the consequences would surface for the mullahs’ regime.
