Iran: Rouhani acknowledges difficult circumstances, “ready for negotiations”

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, January 2, 2020—On Wednesday, January 1, Iranian regime President Hassan Rouhani acknowledged the mullahs’ difficult circumstances and economic suffocation. On numerous occasions Rouhani used the terms “ready for negotiations” in his remarks.

“Well, we are not in comfortable conditions. We are not in normal conditions. We are going through difficult circumstances. There’s a conspiracy planned against us, to break us, destroy our grandeur. They need to turn back from this wrong path that they have begun. Whenever they return, we are ready. Whenever they return to the point where they began this conspiracy, say we are ready for negotiations. We, too, are ready for negotiations, on the condition that we return to the starting point. If you don’t say so publicly, do so in your actions, indicate what you did was wrong, and we are ready to sit down and talk,” he said.

It is worth noting that two days ago Rouhani also referred to the regime’s devastating economic distress, even describing the status quo as worse than the 1980s Iran-Iraq war that lasted for eight years.

“We had difficult days during the sanctions era and today we are enduring the worst sanctions era. If we did not have economic warfare, you should know that from 2016 to this day we would be having $200 billion in additional revenue entering the country. $200 billion. I am announcing to you that we are in the harshest circumstances. I am an individual who has been in war, before and after it. I have also been through the [1979] revolution. I have been through all the ups and downs. During each period I have had a certain responsibility. There has never been a period as difficult as these years when everyone is imposing pressure on us,” he added, shedding further light on the mullahs’ crippled circumstances.

On December 30 the mullahs’ regime failed in their efforts to hold a pro-regime rally in response to the November uprising that shook the very pillars of their entire establishment. The day after, Rouhani resorted to ridiculous remarks saying “millions of people” poured into the streets express their “support” for Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the mullahs’ rule.

“In this very month the people showed, when they poured into the streets, you saw that millions of people were in the streets for the country’s security, for stability across the country, and supporting the revolution, supporting the leader, supporting the establishment. This is the meaning of the people’s loyalty,” Rouhani added.

Such remarks from a senior Iranian regime official further indicates the quicksand the mullahs are stuck in as they desperately seek methods to overcome crises inside the country following the November uprising. This dilemma further increases with crippling U.S. sanctions parallel to nations rising against Tehran’s meddling in both Iraq and Lebanon.
