“The number of cities considered red zones in the provinces of Ilam, Bushehr, Kurdistan, Zanjan, Semnan, Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmed, and Gilan are increasing.” said the spokesperson of the regime’s Health Ministry said on Friday, according to the official IRNA news agency. “Currently, there are 114 red cities across the country and 133 are in alarming conditions,” she added.

“Our country is not doing good at all when it comes to the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Hamid Souri, a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday, August 19. “Regarding the college entrance exams that were held recently, I witnessed a case myself of an individual giving an exam had returned contaminating 17 family members and others. We should expect another epidemic explosion and it will be very, very bitter for our society,” he added, according to state TV.

Minoo Mohraz, member of the Coronavirus Task Force, said, “We requested that college entrance exams be postponed until the weather becomes more tolerable and we can hold them outdoors. Stadiums are the best places for this. They have lights and we can hold the exams at night. But they said no, and the forced the health ministry to write a protocol for the exams. Who will be enforcing these protocols. Exams mean congregations, and as an expert at the health ministry, I say that they must not be held indoors because we’ve had similar experience with metros. Were the protocols abided by in the metro? If these kids contract Covid, they will take it to their homes and infect several other people.” (Source: Hamshahri, August 19)

The semi-official ISNA news agency quoted Alireza Zali, the head of Tehran’s Coronavirus Task Force, as saying, “Constant fatigue, exhaustive procedure, changes in the motivation of the medical community, and the extension of the pandemic have changed the situation of the medical community. We must be careful that the fatigue caused by the attrition of the disease does not cause challenges and damage that go beyond the medical sector. The concurrence of coronavirus and seasonal diseases, the inclination of people to be indoors, respiratory symptoms and allergies, and a wave of H1N1 infection is very worrying. If the situation persists, the medical community will be dealing with even more pressure in fall.”

Ahmad Naderi, member of the Majlis (parliament), said, “In an act of defiance, the mayor of Tehran refrained from cancelling the traffic plan while the number of coronavirus casualties had reached 200 per day. But after much pressure, he was forced to cancel the traffic control plan. Yet, recently, it was declared that the plan will be brought back into effect starting in August 22… If the students survive the college entrance exams, they will surely be exposed to the virus in the heavy traffic of the capital or when using public transport.” (Source: Etemad Online, August 20)

The dean of Mazandaran Medical Sciences University said, “There are 851 hospitalized coronavirus patients in the hospitals covered by this university, and 220 of them are in ICU.” (Source: Fars News Agency, August 21)

In Isfahan province, the governor of Lenjan confirmed that every day, over 30 coronavirus cases are registered and an average of three people die, according to Fars News Agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). “Given our current facilities, we will have serious problems if the situation persists,” the governor said.
