“The week leading to August 14 the number of Covid-19 cases and deaths remain relatively high. The increasing trend or the beginning of a peak is witnessed in 13 provinces, including Hormozgan, Bushehr, East Azerbaijan, Isfahan, Semnan, Yazd, Kerman, Alborz, Razavi Khorasan, Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari, Qazvin, Golestan and Tehran. The 11 provinces of Sistan & Baluchistan, Zanjan, Ilam, Lorestan, Kermanshah, North Khorasan, Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmed, Markazi, Qom and South Khorasan are reporting inconsistent data and this is preventing us from obtaining a correct analysis of the situation,” according to the Covid-19 Epidemiologic Committee report on Sunday, published by the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The illness increased once again following the reopening of the economy,” said Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi, according to the Mehr news agency, affiliated to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS). “In nearly all the country’s provinces this virus has had its cycle. Currently, we are extremely concerned about Mazandaran province (in the north) because both the number of cases and deaths in this province are high. We are also concerned about the provinces of Tehran and Razavi Khorasan because the number of cases and deaths are quite significant. Of course, the situation in Kerman province remains red and currently the number of new cases in the country’s southern provinces is alarming,” he added, according to the state-run Khabar Fouri (breaking news) wesbsite.

“The virus’ has increased its ability to transfer from one person to another by three to nine-fold,” says Masoud Mardani, a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Sunday. “Anyone suffering from a chronic illness with a fever, the very first reason is Covid-19 unless it is proven otherwise… Those patients who arrived two or three weeks ago from Ahvaz I would have hospitalized even if they only complained about abdominal pains. Then I would realize they were Covid-19 positive. At one time we even thought that children would not be getting ill with this virus. Just go and take a look at our Children Medical Center, the Hazrat-e Ali Hospital and Mofid Hospital, which are our three main pediatric centers. They are filled with Covid-19 patients and even the ICUs are full.”

“I have the experience of serving in the Majlis (parliament) and the Health and Treatment Committee. Never did I imagine Tehran province have this volume of dilemmas and shortages, especially in the health and treatment,” said Tehran governor Anoushirvan Mohseni-Bandpei on Saturday. “Each year we have 220,000 to 250,000 people added to the population of Tehran province. There are no new infrastructures being built with this volume of population in this province. 23 percent of the country’s slum population living in poor areas of our country’s cities are in Tehran province. Around 22 percent of the country’s social damages are in Tehran province, and this spills over across the entire country,” he added, according to the Mehr news agency.

The dean of Alborz Medical Sciences University confirmed 11 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency. The dean added that 115 hospitalized patients are in critical conditions.

The spokesperson of the health ministry in Yazd province said, “Since June, the number of hospitalized patients in this province has been increasing…. The condition of the disease in most counties of the province is fragile.” (Source: IRNA, August 16)

In Mazandaran province, the spread of the disease has been intensifying in the past 40 days, Fars News Agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), reported on Sunday. “The situation is so bad that field hospitals are being considered,” Fars added and quoted the dean of Babol Medical Sciences University as saying, “There are 1,293 patients hospitalized in the province’s hospitals.”

The head of public relations at Hormozgan Medical Sciences University said, “in the past 24 hours, eight coronavirus patients have lost their lives, 56 people are in ICU and 21 are in critical conditions.” (Source: ISNA, August 16)
