While following remarks delivered by Iranian regime President Hassan Rouhani the mullahs’ Health Ministry announced 127 cities as “corona-free areas,” local officials in various provinces are one after another rejecting such claims and announcing their conditions as “red” and “critical.”

The Health Ministry announced nine cities of Isfahan Province, central Iran, as “corona-free” areas. However, deputy dean of the Isfahan Medical Sciences University played down such remarks. “Currently, we don’t have any ‘corona-free’ areas in Isfahan Province and the entire province is code red,” he said Monday, April 27, according to the state-run IMNA news agency.

The Health Ministry announced six “corona-free” areas in Sistan & Baluchistan Province, southeast Iran. However, dean of the Zahedan Medical Sciences University also rejected such a claim. “The trend of new COVID-19 cases in Sistan & Baluchistan Province has changed in alarming fashion… The truth is that not only are there no indications of the coronavirus coming to an end, in fact there are signs that we are at the beginning of a second peak,” he said on Monday, April 27, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

In Khuzestan Province, southwest Iran, the regime’s Health Ministry announced 12 cities as “corona-free” areas. However, the caretaker dean of Jondi Shapour Medical Sciences University in the city of Ahvaz thinks otherwise. “The number of people hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Khuzestan Province have increased by 50 percent during the past week,” he said on Monday, according to the state-run Behdasht News outlet.

“There are still no areas in the province that can be considered ‘corona-free’ areas and we are still in danger,” said the Health Ministry’s own official in Gilan Province, northern Iran, on Monday, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“The status quo in Mashhad is still not ‘corona-free’ and the number of COVID-19 patients have increased during the past 24 hours,” said the dean of the city’s Medical Sciences University on Monday, according to the Tasnim news agency, affiliated to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.

“The situation is not ‘corona-free’ and as a result sacred shrine and all other mosques will remain closed. Friday prayers and mass prayers will not be held until May 20,” said the governor of Qom Province on Monday, according to the state-run Aftab daily.

Today, Alireza Salimi, the deputy chief of the Medical Council broke news of the death of four anesthesia specialists and said, “In one of the hospitals, all seven anesthesia specialists have contracted [COVID-19].”

Hossein Erfani, the president of the Center for Infectious Diseases in the Health Ministry, said, “We are still in the first wave and the expanding wave of the disease and we are approaching the peak.”

As the coronavirus crisis continues, the situation of workers is getting worse by the day. The state-run Sharq newspaper wrote, “Thirty-seven workers of the Urmia Petrochemical Factory tested positive for coronavirus. Reportedly, 82 people were tested and 37 of them were positive, which means 45 percent of the workers.”

According to the regime’s officials state, “In the last ten days at least 100,000 workers in the provinces of Mazandaran, Golestan and Lorestan have been laid off. Furthermore, about 65,000 others have registered to receive unemployment insurance/benefits… One of the sectors where employment has reached near-zero levels is construction. In Mazandaran (northern Iran) and according to remarks made by a local labor organization official, at least 80,000 construction workers have been laid off.”

The state-run Arman newspaper wrote, “Those who had saved something in the past years have now depleted those reserves and are resorting to selling their belongings. These days, many people are seen in jewelries, and they’re not buyers—they’re selling their gold. They are selling what they have left to be able to make ends meet during the coronavirus crisis.”
