“During the past week, the provinces of Ilam, Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari, Hamedan and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad have had the highest number of new positive cases. The provinces of Alborz, Markazi (Central), Hamedan, and East Azerbaijan have had the highest number of coronavirus deaths,” said the regime’s Health Ministry spokesperson on Sunday. “In the southern areas of the country there are reports of mutated cases regarding the South African and Indian variants. This can be an alarm bell towards a new and heavier peak,” she added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Bushehr, Sistan & Baluchistan, and Hormozgan provinces are reporting their decreasing trends coming to an end. Considering the fact that the Indian and African variants have been reported in these provinces, a few cities in these areas have been elevated from orange status to red,” said Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Sunday. “If we do not pay close attention to elements of threats, we can cause the start of a fifth peak. This virus has not at all been eliminated nor has it weakened. The longer its lifespan becomes, there will be numerous mutations,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

In Hormozgan province the governor voiced serious concerns on Sunday about the situations in Hormozgan, Sistan & Baluchistan, and Bushehr provinces due to their naval commuting. “The trend of increasing new cases, considering the discovery of Indian and African variants, is concerning. Hormozgan is currently the only province reporting an increasing number of new cases,” this official explained, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“In Kerman province the number of coronavirus deaths and new confirmed cases per day has not changed, and the cities in the east and southern parts of the province are facing entries into the fifth wave,” said the governor of Kerman province on Sunday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“The numbers are increasing yet again and to prevent a new wave of this illness we need to pay special attention to this issue,” said the deputy dean of Shiraz Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“Currently 30 percent of Covid-19 tests conducted in [Kermanshah] province are positive. Yesterday we had 623 tests of which 213 were positive. This indicates that the threat of coronavirus remains as serious as ever,” said the dean of Kermanshah Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
