Iran, January 30, 2021—Over 208,700 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 478 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Saturday afternoon local time, January 30. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 57,889 around a third of the actual figure.
The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 50,466 in Tehran, 13260 in Isfahan, 10,390 in Khuzestan, 8512 in Mazandaran, 7943 in East Azerbaijan, 7678 in West Azerbaijan, 6417 in Fars, 5325 in Golestan, 4918 in Hamedan, 4634 in Fars, 4304 in Kermanshah, 3847 in Yazd, 3213 in North Khorasan, 2592 in Ardabil, and 2239 in Qazvin. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

While even the regime’s own medical organizations and experts are weighing an increasing number of new cases and the threat of a fourth wave along with a mutated virus, regime President Hassan Rouhani resorted to new deceptive remarks to justify the mullahs’ criminal policy of not importing the Covid-19 vaccine. “Officials and experts are certain that we will at the latest obtain our domestic vaccine later this year and start the vaccination process,” he said on Saturday. “The crimes committed by the previous U.S. administration reached a point that they prevented medical treatment, vaccines, equipment and receiving a loan, creating obstacles everywhere,” Rouhani continued. It is worth noting that during the past two months, time and again Rouhani and the regime’s Central Bank chief, along with other regime officials, have said they have resolved the currency needs to import vaccines. Furthermore the U.S. government repeatedly said there are no restrictions before the regime for transferring money for the purpose of purchasing vaccines.

“I, too, will not be injecting the Russian vaccine,” said the head of the regime’s Majlis (parliament) Health Commission on Saturday. “The vaccine is not a political issue and must not be judged based on political relationships. When we are not certain of the clinical stages of a vaccine, we are not going to test it on our people,” he added, according to the state-controlled Khabar Online website.
“The only method is to fight against Covid-19. Today in the countries neighboring Iran in the Middle East some have been able to vaccinate up to 40 percent of their population. However, we have yet to even start in Iran,” said one regime official on Saturday, according to the state-controlled Hamdeli daily.
“If we are to import the Russian vaccine, why did we not do so six months ago? Why did they wait until thousands of people have died? Mistake after mistake. We should not be paying the price of officials’ mistakes with our lives again and again,” said Mohammad Reza Hashemian, an ICU expert at Tehran’s Masih Daneshvari Hospital on Saturday, according to the state-controlled Jahan-e Sanat daily.
A member of the regime’s National Covid-19 Task Force said on Saturday that the virus is spreading at a rate five times higher than in previous weeks. “During the past eight months the R0 figure indicating the number of people who have contracted the virus from people who have been hosts had bene registered at 1.2. However, during the past week this figure has reached 5.7,” this official added, according to the Javan daily, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).
Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the regime’s National Covid-19 Task Force, said the number of people seeking medical treatment and being hospitalized is beginning to rise in some provinces. “Mazandaran remains the province with the highest number of new people hospitalized each day,” he said on Saturday, while expressing concerns over the situation in Hormozgan, Yazd, and North Khorasan provinces. “The virus has not weakened at all. In fact, it has become even stronger with various mutations,” he added, according to state TV.
In Hormozgan province the dean of the local Medical Sciences University on Saturday reported a 15 percent increase in the number of people seeking care for Covid-19, a 16 percent increase in those being quarantined at home, a 20 percent increase in the number of people hospitalized, and a 13 percent increase in the number of people placed in ICUs, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).
“The fourth peak across the country and in Markazi (Central) province is quite near. During the past week we witnessed a 21 percent increase in the number of people being hospitalized across the province and a 38 percent increase in the death rate,” said the dean of Markazi Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
“During the past 24 hours we have had 75 coronavirus patients hospitalized, which is a 150 percent increase in comparison to the last ten days,” said the dean of West Azerbiajan Medical Sciences University on Saturday. “Currently we have 341 people hospitalized for coronavirus, 99 of which are in ICUs and 26 of them are under ventilators,” the official added.
“The cities of Ahvaz, Abadan, Masjed Soleymani, and Omidiyeh are considered yellow coronavirus zones. Alongside the UK strain this is dangerous and will have dangerous consequences,” said the dean of Jondi Shapour Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to state TV.
