Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, October 6, 2020—Over 117,200 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 450 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Tuesday afternoon local time, October 6. The official death count declared by the regime stands at 27,419, around a fifth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 27,841 in Tehran, 8800 in Razavi Khorasan, 7538 in Khuzestan, 5964 in Isfahan, 5457 in Mazandaran, 5090 in Qom, 4691 in Gilan, 4068 in East Azerbaijan, 3215 in Alborz, 3136 in Fars, 2583 in Kermanshah, 1793 in Kerman, 1756 in Semnan, 1525 in Markazi (Central), and 1425 in Bushehr. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry spokesperson announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers on Monday as 4151 new cases and 4200 patients in dire conditions. These numbers are record numbers since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are facing major difficulties regarding our ICU beds and hospitals where we can send patients to. Our medical personnel are also suffering from fatigue,” said Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi on Tuesday. “It has been seven to eight months that our workforce has been on duty with all its might. Some of our equipment are being overused beyond their capacity. Equipment such as CT scan devices, oxygen-concentrator units and ventilators. This equipment, considering that they have been in use for some time, are wearing down and need service and maintenance. This is quite a challenging issue,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Tehran is witnessing overly critical circumstances. In the past few weeks there have not been a day where we experienced relatively better conditions,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Monday. “Tehran had 114 Covid-19 deaths in the past 24-hour period. In the past five days, unfortunately three days we had record numbers of deaths and people being hospitalized for Covid-19. We have had the worst conditions in the past 72 hours during which we have had one of the highest numbers of registered deaths and people being hospitalized. In one geographical area more than 25 of every 100,000 people have contracted the virus, and conditions are considered critical and a red zone. In Tehran we are far beyond this index,” he added in remarks to state TV.

“All beds of the hospitals that I’m working in are filled with patients. All my colleagues say they have no room in their hospitals,” said Masoud Mardani, a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force. “I tell them to keep the patient in the general section so they can keep an eye on him/her and transfer them onto a bed later. They then inform me that no section of the hospital has any free space. Wherever we look we see that there are patients who are not receiving medical care; oh God, what are we to do? Conditions are truly deeply concerning,” he added, according to state TV.

“Today we have had the highest number of new Covid-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Unfortunately, the death toll indicates that we are in critical conditions. Despite the fact that 105 hospitals are accepting Covid-19 patients in Tehran, there truly are no empty beds,” said Payam Tabarasi, a senior official in Masih Daneshvari Hospital on Monday, according to state TV.

“Our status quo in ICU sections and the beds needed there is not good at all. We are undergoing exceedingly difficult circumstances. The current circumstances are far different from February and March. In addition to coronavirus, we also need to provide medical treatment to non-coronavirus patients. This is added pressure on our ICU sections. The number of people hospitalized are more than those being discharged,” said the head of an ICU branch in Tehran’s Khomeini Hospital on Monday, according to state TV.

The head of the ICU section of Tehran’s Rasul Akram hospital said, “Despite having allocated four ICU sections to Covid-19 patients, all ICU beds have been filled and there’s no room for new patients unless a patient dies or another is transferred from the emergency section. Unfortunately, cases are so numerous that we’re faced with many problems in accepting these patients in the ICU sections. The new wave is much more intense than the previous two waves. Doctors and medical staff are tired and are sick. Not a day goes by that we don’t hear of a doctor or nurse who has contracted the disease.” (Source: State TV, October 5)

The deputy dean of Eastern Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University said, “Since the province’s hospitals are filled, Covid-19 patients must wait several hours in the emergency section. Until yesterday, coronavirus patients filled 1,100 beds. We forecast the number of patients to increase on a daily basis. Until now we haven’t had this many patients in any period and we are in the worse conditions since the beginning of the outbreak.” (Source: ISNA, October 6)

In Khuzestan province, the dean of Jondishapur Medical Sciences University said, “The ICU beds of Razi, Golestan, and Sina hospitals in Ahvaz have been filled. Sunday was the first day we admitted 104 patients. Before that, the average was 60-80 patients per day.” (Source: IRNA, October 6)

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), hailed the doctors and nurses of Iran for their brave efforts to save the lives of patients and reiterated that the regime is directly responsible for the increasing number of Covid-19 deaths. Madam Rajavi stressed that instead supporting the people, the regime’s leaders are sending the people to Covid-19 minefields and are spending the country’s resources on warmongering, terrorism, and missile and nuclear projects. This is while the regime’s own officials are warning about hospitals being filled with patients and many helpless patients in Tehran. Supreme leader Ali Khamenei is not spending anything on the coronavirus response and regime president Hassan Rouhani continues to lie about the regime’s economic conditions and Iran’s health system. While the coronavirus death toll nears 120,000, the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) must be dissolved and its budget and assets spent on the coronavirus response.
