Floods in Iran – Dangerous floodwaters reaches Mashhad in the northeast

Reported by PMOI/MEK

Iran, April 6, 2019 – Torrential rains are being reported in the provinces of Alborz, Qazvin, Hamedan, Gilan, Khorasan Razavi, Ardabil, East Azerbaijan, Golestan and Mazandaran, spanning from the northeast to the northwest regions of the country.

Floodwaters are rising in Mashhad, the country’s second largest city, clearly indicating how the infrastructure was not kept prepared for such circumstances. People’s homes are filled with water and there is no sign of any aid from municipality or provincial authorities.

Water is rising in the streets of Mashhad and the rain is increasing.

In Ahvaz, southwest Iran, parts of the AhvazAndimeshk road are engulfed by floods, slowing commuting for the locals.

People are reporting that a state police officer, who is said to be dispatched by the Khuzestan provincial office to the cities, towns and villages threatened by floods, is telling locals that conditions will severely deteriorate tonight and they must evacuate. He is specifically saying floodwaters will rise suddenly and residents must evacuate to designated camps.

The regime’s representative in the city of Shushtar, Khuzestan Province, southwest Iran, is reportedly saying the rivers of Karun and Dez join after the city of Shushtar and there will be a large amount of water that will enter Ahvaz and create dangerous conditions.

The mayor of Shushtar is saying 18 local villages have literally drowned in floods and 18 other villages have been surrounded by rising waters.

The deputy mayor in the city of Dasht-e Azadegan, Khuzestan Province, is saying all administrative offices and banks in four adjacent cities will be closed on Sunday due to the increasing threats of floods.

Officials are asking the people to leave all flood barriers and head for safety.
