Albania expels another Iran regime operative for spying on MEK complex

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Albania, July 23, 2020—“Another Iranian individual has been designated by Albanian authorities as persona non grata (unwelcomed element) for his actions against the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Albania, and signs indicate he will be expelled from Albania in the coming hours,” Albania’s Top Channel TV network reported on Wednesday, adding that the person in question would be banned from entering Albania for the next 15 years.

This individual, Danial Kasraie, is an Iranian national with a citizenship from Italy. This 29-year old man is suspected of espionage and intentions to penetrate on behalf of the Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

This individual is classified as a dangerous figure who violates public security, according to reports issued by Albanian anti-terrorism agencies. Orders for his departure were signed by Albanian Interior Minister Sandër Lleshaj with Decision Number 172 and it is expected he will be expelled within the coming hours.

Danial Kasraie, 29, has time and again been seen near Ashraf 3, the MEK complex located west of the Albanian capital Tirana. He has on behalf of the Iranian regime attempted to recruit current or former MEK members.

Since the relocation of MEK members from Iraq to Albania, the Iranian regime has increased its spying activities in the Balkan country, mostly through its diplomatic facilities. In 2018, Albanian authorities thwarted an attempt by the Iranian regime to bomb an MEK celebration gathering near Tirana, the capital. The attempt led to the expulsion of a senior Iranian diplomat from Albania. Two other diplomats were expelled earlier this year and an educational center run by the Iranian regime was shut down after it was discovered as a cover for Tehran’s espionage activities against the MEK.

“Other such individuals are under investigation on the suspicion of collaborating with [Kasraie] who is an MOIS operative aiming to penetrate into the ranks of MEK members,” the Top Channel TV report added.

It is worth noting that the Security and Counterterrorism Commission of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) had issued a statement on November 19, 2019. To recruit his targets, this operative of the mullahs’ regime introduced himself as a reporter earning 7,000 euros a month. And whenever necessary he would show a forged ID card and claim to be a member of the Albanian secret police.

In a press conference on October 23, 2019, Albania’s Police Chief announced the uncovering of a terrorist ring connected to the Iranian regime in that country, according to an NCRI statement.

The NCRI  Committee on Security and Counterterrorism urged all Iranians in European countries to provide any information on the activities of the regime’s agents to the relevant law enforcement agencies.

In its 29 April 1997 declaration, the European Union stressed that the regime’s intelligence operatives must be expelled from Europe and that no visas should be issued for those Iranians linked to Iran’s intelligence and security services.

The NCRI Security and Counterterrorism reiterates:

  1. Agents and operatives of the Intelligence Ministry, the IRGC, and the terrorist Quds Force must be prosecuted, punished and expelled from European territory.
  2. The MOIS and the IRGC must be included in the European Union’s terrorist list.
  3. The mullahs’ embassies and representations, which in reality are terror and espionage centers, must be shut down.
