Iran coronavirus update: Over 482,300 deaths, warnings issued of new South African variant

Over 482,300 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Sunday afternoon local time, November 28. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 129,629, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include:

113,005 in Tehran, 39,265 in Razavi Khorasan, 33,075 in Isfahan, 29,330 in Khuzestan, 18,098 in West Azerbaijan, 16,780 in Gilan, 14,158 in Alborz, 12,932 in Kerman, 8963 in Hamedan, 8015 in Hormozgan, 6123 in North Khorasan, 6065 in Ardabil, an d 4186 in South Khorasan. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Sunday as 80 deaths and 3781 new cases. Furthermore, 3347 patients are in ICUs and 649 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

“Despite all the precaution, the possibility of the [new South African variant] entering the country remains and we should not think that all is done with vaccination,” said regime Health Minister Bahram Einollahi on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“During the past 24 hours we have witnessed an increase in the number of coronavirus patients being hospitalized. If this trend continues, we will see a significant rise in the number of dire patients and daily death toll,” said the dean of Ardabil Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.

“Covid-19 cases in the three cities of Hamidiyeh, Ramshir, and Hendijan are increasing. During the past week the death toll has increased by four percent,” said the dean of Khuzestan Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the IRGC-affiliated Fars news agency.

In Golestan province the number of coronavirus patients is on the rise and the identification of new variants has raised grave concerns over an increase in the number of new cases and deaths. The spread of this virus can result in a new wave of patients across the province, according to a report wired on Sunday by the Tasnim news agency.

“During the past week the number of people seeking initial medical care in the city outskirts has increased. This can be the result of the coronavirus or influenza spreading among the population. The status quo is concerning and there is a possibility of a rise in the illness,” according to a statement released on Sunday by the Razavi Khorasan Medical Sciences University.

“We currently have 92 dire patients in ICUs and a total of 362 patients in hospitalized across the province,” according to the Yazd Medical Sciences University spokesperson on Sunday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“With 113 new patients hospitalized in the past 24 hours the total number of patients hospitalized across [Fars] province stands at 1128, of which 149 are in ICUs,” according to a statement released on Sunday by the Fars Medical Sciences University.
