Time to finally end appeasing Iran’s regime

Analysis by PMOI/MEK

Jan. 13, 2019 – The speech delivered by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently in Cairo is raising quite a stir in the international community, and more importantly, sounding alarm bells among Iranian regime officials. The U.S. will no longer protect the mullahs ruling Iran, and America has joined the Iranian people who seek freedom and accountability, Pompeo explained.

“The age of self-inflicted American shame is over, and so are the policies that produced so much needless suffering,” Pompeo said in his speech, signaling a significant U-turn from the decades of appeasement the Iranian regime has enjoyed in the past decades.

The mullahs of Iran have been able to advance their policies of domestic crackdown and exporting terrorism across the region. The Iranian people suffered the most when former U.S. president Barack Obama chose to ignore the calls of the 2009 uprising as millions of protesters in the streets of Iran were chanting, “Obama, are you with us or them?”

Nations across the region, mainly in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen and Syria have been suffering tremendously. Tehran’s mullahs are known to pour tens, if not hundreds of billions of dollars into these countries to pursue their support for proxy groups wreaking havoc against innocent people. Syrian dictator Bashar Assad has remained in power thanks mainly to the Iranian regime unbridled financial/proxy/arms/logistical support.

As we speak, the Houthi militias in Yemen are hindering peace efforts after launching a rampage – backed by the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) – against the internationally recognized government, storming into Sana’a and nearly pushing all legitimate forces out of the country. Continuing their current policies would be impossible for the Houthis without support from the Iranian regime.

From 2003 onward, with international attention shifting to Iraq, the Iranian regime was able to use this opportunity and expand its influence in its western neighbor to a grave extent. Currently, Tehran’s mullahs enjoy vast reach across the country, especially among Iraqi Shiites that comprise over 60% of the population. Former Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki, at times described by the media as Tehran’s puppet in Baghdad, launched a deadly campaign of attacks against members of the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in camps Ashraf and Liberty. An international effort led by Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi resulted in the PMOI/MEK members’ successful transfer to Europe with the main bulk now stationed in Albania.

Welcoming the U.S. decision to distance from policies that have resulted in victimizing the Iranian people and Iranian Resistance, Rajavi once again reiterated the fact that obtaining weapons of mass destruction, human rights violations, exporting fundamentalism and terrorism are the four main pillars of the theocracy ruling Iran. The lasting solution to rid the world of the religious fascism ruling Iran is regime change of the mullahs’ illegitimate rule at the hands of the Iranian people and Iranian Resistance.

Recognizing the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), as the sole democratic alternative for the mullahs’ regime, is necessary to compensate and finally end the catastrophic results rendered from the West’s appeasement approach.
