Iran’s regime is on the verge of collapse, senior officials admit

Iran, June 1, 2021—These days, high-profile Iranian officials, both current and former, are acknowledging that the regime’s situation is bad in all respects, and it is facing a possible rebellion at the scale of the 1979 revolution that overthrew the Shah regime.

What’s interesting is that the people who warn of the regime’s overthrow today were deeply involved in the regime’s crimes for four decades and have worked hard to prevent the regime’s overthrow. Their statements today prove that when the time for regime change comes, nothing can stop it.

Two regime presidents, who led the regime for 16 years, are admitting that the regime’s overthrow is near, making it clearer that the regime’s ship is sinking fast.

"98.2 percent of the people voted for the Islamic Republic [in 1979]. Where did this 98 percent go? Why does this percentage of participation shrink every day?" said regime president Hassan Rouhani on May 26.

Concerned about the division and collapse in the regime, he added: "What happened to our national solidarity, what happened to our national interest, what happened to the country’s security?"

On the same day, former regime president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, "I feel the threat of rebellion by the hungry population every day. The society is on the verge of explosion."

"The situation in the country is bad and of course it has never been so bad, and as this situation continues, it will get much worse very quickly," he added.

Rouhani warned, "We cannot abandon the ballot box. What will you replace it with? If you take the life from the election, it will become lifeless and the ballot box will fall, it is very dangerous.”

Ahmadinejad also added about election engineering by the Guardian Council and a low voter turnout: "This situation has domestic and international impact, so that we will fall and can no longer rise again."

In another statement, Ahmadinejad described himself as a shepherd standing on a hill, announcing that a flood was coming and will sweep away everyone.

However, Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei could not tolerate even candidates who had been in high government positions for years and had been complicit in crimes against the Iranian people. And this is why he ordered the Guardian Council to eliminate all candidates that could potentially undermine his authority and instead approve a list of criminals that were totally in line with his policies.

On May 26, the state-run Arman wrote, “Really, what is the insistence on imposing costs on the country in disqualifying personalities such as Ali Larijani, Eshagh Jahangiri, Mohsen Hashemi Rafsanjani, Ezzata-Allah Zarghami, Massoud Pezeshkian, etc. from the 2021 presidential election? What answer do they really have for the judgment of the future, which makes the train of the revolution more and more deserted and discourages the people from participating in the election? What has been the result of the disqualification of such personalities, which they still insist on? What is the real cost to the country of discrediting prominent figures of the country by the Guardian Council?”

But the situation that Khamenei is creating is just one side of Iran’s political scene. The flipside is a population that is fed up with the regime and an organized resistance movement that is poised to overthrow the tyrannical rule of the mullahs.

Of course, the dichotomy between the regime on one side and the people and the resistance of Iran on the other is has existed since the morrow of the 1979 revolution when the mullahs seized power in Iran.
