Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, October 25, 2019The people of Iraq have launched a new round of demonstrations against government corruption and Iran’s meddling in this country. The cities of Baghdad and Nasiriyah, along with others in the country’s southern provinces, are now scenes of anti-government demonstrations.

Demonstrators in Baghdad and Nasiriyah were seen chanting, “Iran, out, out! Baghdad will be free!” in continuing sign of the Iraqi people’s protests against Tehran’s meddling in their country.

Al Arabiya TV reported a number of Iraqis, especially the youth, rallying around Baghdad’s Tahrir Square on Thursday night were seen chanting against Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force chief Qassem Soleimani. “Qassem Soleimani, I am Iraqi,” they were seen chanting.

Demonstrators were able to enter the heavily-fortified Green Zone in Baghdad where many government buildings and embassies are located. The police used tear gas and anti-riot vehicles equipped with water cannons in their attempt to disperse the crowd.

Iraqi police and medical sources said at around 2 pm local time a third demonstrator had been killed in Baghdad in clashes with security forces, according to Sky News Arabic. This report also adds Iraqi demonstrators were able to storm the Al Muthanna governorate building in this southern Iraqi province.

Al Akhbariya TV reported two demonstrators were killed as Iraqi security forces launched an attack, more than 60 were injured and more than 100 suffered suffocation due to the excessive use of tear gas.

Iraqi security forces first fired bird shots then launched tear gas towards thousands of demonstrators storming Baghdad’s Jomhuriya Bridge leading to the capital’s Green Zone, according to the German news agency DPA.

Iraqi demonstrators in the cities of Nasriyiah and Basra were seen chanting against the Iranian regime. From early Friday morning, the Iraqi Bar Association expressed its support for the Iraqi people’s uprising.
