Iran: Truckers, people from all walks of life hold protests

Reported by PMOI/MEK

Iran, Dec. 25, 2018 – Truckers in numerous cities of Iran are on a new nationwide strike, the fifth to this day, protesting high tire prices and low wages. Tuesday marks the fourth day of this latest protest movement. Reports indicate Iranian regime authorities have ordered empty trucks on the roads from Zahedan to Taftan in southeast Iran to claim there is no such strike and this protest movement has ended.

On Monday, the strike was witnessed in dozens of cities, including Tehran, Sari, Sanandaj, Dorud, Kangavar, Bushehr, Isfahan, Bandar Abbas, Malayer, Yazd, Ardakan, Urmia, Neyshabur, Sabzevar, and Chermahin. This movement has now reached 31 cities in 21 of Iran’s 31 provinces.

In other reports of protests across the country, on Tuesday, for the second consecutive day, family members of jailed National Steel Group workers in Ahvaz, southwest Iran, rallied outside the Khuzestan Province Governor’s office demanding their loved ones’ release.

Their signs read:

“Dad, I’m waiting for you”

“Workers place is in factories”

“Release jailed workers”

“Release my father”

“Workers in jail while thieves roam free”

“Economic austerities mean workers in prison”

“Why is my son in prison?”

The families are saying that during the past ten days they have checked with all officials and authorities to have their loved ones released, but their requests have fallen on deaf ears and they have only heard lies. These families are calling on all people to support them and join their ranks in these protests.

These National Steel Group employees were apprehended following their 38-day strike and protests. These arrests began at midnight on December 17, during which 42 steelworkers were arrested. A number of those detained were released in the following days and the remaining are held in other detention centers.
