Reporting by PMOI/MEK
Iran, June 7, 2020—The number of victims due to the novel coronavirus in Iran is almost reaching 50,000.
On Saturday, June 6, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced that over 49,800 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 325 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by its internal network. This is while the official death count declared by the regime stands at 8,209, less than a sixth of the actual figure.
In this regard, the Iranian regime’s President Hassan Rouhani acknowledged during the Coronavirus Task Force committee meeting on Saturday to the regime’s defeat and deadlock to confront the COVID-19 and said: “In this situation, we have no other option, it means there is not a second way. Factories must be active, our shops must be open, and we must be able to move around in society.”
Regime’s frustration toward the MEK revelations

Rouhani also expressed his frustration toward the MEK’s daily revelations on coronavirus statistics, which has become a source of information for many across the globe and said:
“People should not listen to the propaganda of the enemies and the ill-wishers of the revolution. Even the state-run media repeat what was said the night before by the ill-wisher’s media the day after.”
Rouhani is upset by this propaganda failure, which sets the stage for the regime’s next failures concerning the coronavirus crisis. Moreover, even the regime’s media cited statistics and information published by the MEK and the Iranian Resistance. Since the statistics and information of the MEK and the Iranian Resistance has become a reference for the world, Rouhani warns the regime’s officials by saying: “They made up the second peak, they made up the third peak and this will disrupt the society”.
The regime’s failure in covering up the number of victims in the November protests
Iranian regime security forces killed over 1,500 protesters in November 2019
The regime also failed in its efforts to downplay the numbers of martyrs of November 2019 nationwide uprising. Six months after the Iranian regime led a bloody crackdown against nationwide protests, Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli tacitly announced that only 200-250 people were killed in the protests.
But his remarks were mostly ridiculed by the regime’s own officials as well as Iranians inside the country and abroad mainly because the MEK’s internal network had gathered reports that confirmed more than 1,500 protesters were killed by the security forces during the first few days of the uprising and more than 12,000 others were arrested. The MEK’s numbers were later confirmed by Reuters and the U.S. Department of State. Reuters reported on December 23, 2019: “About 1,500 people were killed during less than two weeks of unrest that started on Nov. 1” But regime president Hassan Rouhani denied Reuters’ numbers in a conference on February 17, 2020, and said that the “numbers are much lower than this.”
The Role of MEK’s internal network
MEK’s Activities inside Iran
The Iranian Resistance Units, MEK’s internal network, has played a significant role in the last two years during the nationwide uprising to reveal the regime’s criminal secrecy about the coronavirus statistics and the numbers of victims killed during the protests.
A source of momentum in these events was the Iranian Resistance Units, the internal network of the MEK inside Iran. The Resistance Units played a key role and had a major impact on revealing the regime’s criminal policy by collecting information and sending daily images, videos, and news about incidents inside Iran. They had a huge influence in organizing the nationwide uprisings of December 2017 and November 2019 that shook the Iranian regime in its entirety.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in her remarks on the Anniversary of the Anti-Monarchic Revolution on February 12, said: “Members of the MEK have planted the seeds of uprising and revolution across Iran by sacrificing their own lives.
