While the novel coronavirus takes more victims every day across Iran, regime President Hassan Rouhani continued his lies on Saturday, June 6, during a meeting with the country’s COVID-19 Task Force members. “We rank first in the region and the Islamic World in science and research… and today many Iranians and non-Iranians are in line to come to Iran for treatment!” he claimed.

All the while Rouhani was forced to recognize the fact that “this epidemic will be long, and we don’t have a clear and specific end for it.” However, he immediately returned to his lies by placing the blame on the people and denying any wrongdoing by the regime, claiming the second COVID-19 wave in Iran is due to weddings, funerals, and ethnic and tribal gatherings.

“The fact that [anti-regime entities] constantly spread their propaganda that all work must come to a halt and some of our own outlets that lack criteria resort to parroting the criteria of [anti-regime entities] is not right,” Rouhani complained.

“Currently around 20 percent of our country’s entire population have contracted this illness and according to the World Health Organization at least 40 to 70 percent of the country’s population will be contracting this illness,” said Minoo Mohraz, a member of the regime’s COVID-19 Task Force said on Saturday, according to the regime’s Khabar Fori website.

“Most certainly there will be a new wave in Tehran. In the past 24 hours we have seen a 7.9 percent rise in the number of people seeking medical aid,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran COVID-19 Task Force on Friday, June 5, according to the state-run Daneshju news agency.

The situation in Khuzestan province is still critical. The dean of medical sciences universities in Ahvaz and Abadan respectively reported 782 and 107 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, according to Fars News Agency and Resalat Daily. IRIB, the regime’s main broadcaster, quoted the deputy dean of Dezful Medical Sciences University as saying, “Hundred members of the medical staff of Dezful Medical Sciences University have contracted coronavirus. Twelve of them are doctors.”

In Hormozgan, the spread of coronavirus continues at a growing pace. Fars quoted the dean of Hormozgan Medical Sciences University as saying, “There are 333 new coronavirus cases in Hormozgan, raising the total number of cases to 5,019… Unfortunately, today, nine coronavirus patients lost their lives, including two 38- and 34-year-old men and a 25-year-old woman who did not have any underlying conditions.”

A member of the Islamic Council of Bandar Abbas said, “The number of coronavirus patients in the past two weeks in Bandar Abbas has increased severalfold. If the conditions persist, the facilities of the city will no longer be able to support and control the situation. Then, officials will have a greater share of the blame, because they blame the people for the sudden rise in cases while they have taken no concrete measure in this regard.” (Source: IMNA, June 6)

Meanwhile, Tasnim News Agency reported that Qeshm Island is faced with a 200-percent increase in the number of cases. “Jask county will implement coronavirus restriction starting Saturday, June 6,” Tasnim reported.

In Western Azerbaijan, the dean of the medical sciences university said, “This province has registered a record 303 new coronavirus cases in one day. In the second peak, the number of patients is greater than the first peak, the patients are in worse conditions and need ICU care. The counties of Sardasht, Urmia, Mahabad, Miandoab, Salmas, and Khoy are in code-red conditions.” (Source: Mehr News Agency, June 5).

Regarding government officials blaming the people for the spread of the virus, Aftab-e Yazd, a state-run daily, wrote, “It is heard that, like previous problems, the people are being blamed for not observing social distancing, for coming to the streets. But no one explains why the quarantine was lifted prematurely. If there was no choice but to lift quarantines for the poor and low-income segments of the society, couldn’t the government provide three or four months of aid to these people?”

It is worth reminding that on May 29, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), had stressed, “[T]he major economic and financial conglomerates controlled by Khamenei and the IRGC could have easily provided for several months of living expenses of the hardworking Iranians and the deprived so that they would not have needed to go to work. There was no need to send the Iranian people to the altar of Coronavirus.”
