Protests of Safran factory workers of Torbat-e Heydarieh

On Wednesday, June 3, saffron farmers of Torbat-e Heydarieh, Razavi Khorasan province, protested in front of the governorate for not meeting their demands by the regime’s Central Organization for Rural Cooperatives. After several days, the governmental institutions still haven’t taken any concrete action. The protesters say the government has purchased their saffron more than seven months ago, but they still haven’t received their pay.

“First, they said that they would give all the saffron money in 20 days, but they didn’t pay us for three months, and now it’s been about seven months. And when we protest here, they prevent us. Where do we have to go? Where do we have to ask for our money? We have a lot of debt and expenses,” one of the protesters said.

Another protester added that the government is paying for its purchases in 2-3 percent tranches. “We’re all farmers here, and our money is in their hands,” he said.
