Iran, April 30, 2020—More protests are reported across Iran as people from all walks of life are angry over their conditions as the novel coronavirus epidemic continues to destroy lives throughout the country.

In Tehran, stonemasons and fruit store owners held a rally on Wednesday, April 29, protesting the country’s poor economic conditions that has become unbearable for the general public.

Also, on Wednesday employees of North Khorasan Province Electricity Department in the city of Bojnourd, northeast Iran, held a rally protesting being forced to continue their work without adequate hygiene necessities. Two of their colleagues have recently contracted COVID-19. They have been hospitalized and are reportedly in poor conditions. The protesting employees are demanding disposable gloves, face masks, and disinfectant agents to continue their work. However, regime officials are constantly neglecting the workers’ requests.

On Tuesday, April 28, locals from four villages near the city of Qorveh in Kurdistan Province held a rally outside the local Sarigoni gold mine and blocked a road, protesting the expulsion of a number of their colleagues from this mine. Reports indicate 14 miners were expelled and two locals protesting this decision were arrested by regime authorities. They are demanding the expelled miners be returned to their jobs and mine officials to stop their practice of hiring non-local miners at lower wages.

On Tuesday, employees of a rural area water company in Khuzestan Province, southwest Iran, held a rally protesting not receiving their wages and pensions related to the last Iranian calendar year (Mrach 2019 to March 2020). This gathering was held outside the Khuzestan Province Water and Sewage Department building in the provincial capital of Ahvaz.

In Tabriz, northwest Iran, one local sent a report on Tuesday saying: “Workers have been on strike for a week, protesting their very poor paychecks. Around 50 workers have been on strike. Prior to April 20, they had closed down all areas and everyone was ordered to remain indoors. These workers, however, had no choice but to go to work, from sunrise until dinner time. However, they can no longer tolerate these conditions. One of the workers said they will not return to work unless their wages are increased.”

A number of fishermen in Kish, southern Iran, held a rally outside the Kish Free Trade Area Organization protesting being deprived of their fair share of gasoline. One of these protesters said, “Unfortunately, it has been two months that we fishermen have not received any gasoline. We are tired of following up on this issue and local officials have not taken any action. They are also selling the gasoline they have at very high prices.”

On Tuesday, farmers who have suffered enormous damages from recent floods held a rally outside the regime’s governorate office demanding the promised compensation from the government for their harvests being destroyed. The farmers say, “Following the flood we were supposed to be compensated for our losses. However, to this day none of us have received anything.”
