Senior official says Iran can’t allow nuclear site inspections

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, August 26, 2020—The mullahs’ regime ruling Iran is deeply concerned over possible inspections of its nuclear sites by the United Nations nuclear watchdog.

Mojtaba Zolnour, chair of the mullahs’ National Security and Foreign Policy Commission in the regime’s Majlis (parliament), went as far as saying the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) receives its information from the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

“This is more reason why the Islamic Republic is not permitting the IAEA permission to inspect the two sites that they have raised,” he said on Tuesday.

“We can’t allow these inspections to be carried each and every time. If we do, there will be no end in sight to these claims and they will continue forging dossier by a particular party, expecting us to constantly answer these questions. This trend must be stopped,” he added.

The Iranian Resistance reiterates that as it has shown in the past, the mullahs have never set aside or suspended their pursuit of a nuclear bomb and/or weapons of mass destruction. The international community, and in particular the IAEA, have an obligation on insisting for the immediate and unconditional inspection of all suspect sites to reach the absolute truth and prevent the regime’s deceptive measures.

A thorough inspection of all sites and nuclear facilities of the regime without any restrictions is vital. This would be the basis for verifying the truth about the possible military dimensions (PMD) of the regime’s nuclear weapons development. The world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism cannot be trusted, and needs airproof methods to prevent any possible path for the mullahs to obtain nuclear weapons.

Behrouz Kamalvandi, a spokesman for the regime’s Atomic Energy Organization, stressed that from the beginning, Iran has not opposed access to its nuclear facilities, but believes that the IAEA’s questions should be based on serious evidence, according to a recent piece in the state-run Entekhab daily on August 23. He also clarified that questions based on espionage allegations were not and will not be acceptable at all and that allowing access to the agency is conditioned on questions and ambiguities being resolved once and for all.

Kamalvandi’s statement clearly indicates the regime’s intention to prevent access to its facilities and to buy time to prevent the IAEA from releasing a new negative report. The Iranian regime is also attempting to put behind Mr. Grossi’s trip by making excuses to buy time. Only a firm and decisive approach can force the clerical regime into responding and overcome its deceptive methods of kicking the can down the road.
