Despite growing repression, anti-regime activities continue in Iran

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, December 4, 2020—In Iran, anti-regime slogans continue to spread across the country. Many street walls in various cities are covered by slogans reading in part, “Down with Khamenei, hail to freedom,” and “Rise up to overthrow the regime of the Supreme Leader.”

This is the work Iranian Resistant Units, a network of activists affiliated with the main Iranian opposition movement the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). In recent years, the MEK has expanded its network inside the country and according to the regime’s state-run media, the Resistance Units play a leading role in organizing nationwide protests in January 2018, November 2019, and January 2020.

The regime is furious about MEK’s activities and has led many efforts to contain the growth of the Resistance Units, but it has so far failed to prevent Iranian youths from joining the MEK.

In recent days, the Resistance Units organized activities and campaigns in major cities, calling for the overthrow of the regime. Some of these cities include Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, Mashhad, Ahvaz, Shiraz, Kermanshah, Rasht, Arak, Hamadan, Jahrom, Bumehen, Dorud, Dezfoul, and Neyshabur.

They took to graffiti and installed handwritten slogans on the walls. Their slogans mostly target the regime’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei. “Down with Khamenei, hail to freedom, hail to Rajavi,” and “The supreme leader is the cause of people’s death,” some of the slogans read. Until a few years ago, chanting this slogan was taboo, and though it is still punished severely—possibly with death—it has become very popular among the Iranian public thanks to the activities of the Resistance Units.

The Resistance Units also installed posters of Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi and President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) Maryam Rajavi in various cities.

In Bumehen, a county in Tehran province, Resistance Unit members wrote “No to the crown and no to the turban, the mullahs’ end is near,” a slogan that has been popularized in recent years and indicates the Iranian people neither want the mullahs nor a return to the rule of monarchy.

The Resistance Units also honored those brave protesters fallen for freedom. “The blood of 1500 martyrs of freedom made protesters more determined,” their slogan read. They held up pictures of the martyrs and spread them throughout the cities, pledging to continue the struggle for freedom.

Suppressive centers targeted

In their slogan, “IRGC must be disbanded”, the Resistance Units also mentioned the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) as the main institution responsible for the repression, persecution of protesters, but also looting of Iranian people’s wealth.

Therefore since 2018, the rebellious and defiant youths have targeted many regime’s suppressive centers, including the IRGC bases.

In recent days, the defiant youths have targeted 12 IRGC bases, including the Basij paramilitary bases in Shahriar, Baharestan, and Nassim Shahr district of Tehran, but also in Mobarakeh and central districts of Isfahan, Khorramabad, Ahvaz, and Tonekabon.

The Basij are the most hated suppressive paramilitary force inside Iran and a subsidiary of the terrorist-designated IRGC. Its main role is to preserve the mullahs’ rule through repressive measures against protests and demonstrations. The Basij played a prominent role in quelling the November 2019 protests and are part of the regime’s new plan to increase repressive measures on the anniversary of the uprising.

Also, various posters of regime leaders were torched. In Tehran, Shahriar, and Azan district of Isfahan, the brave youths torched the images of Khamenei. Also, despite the regime’s vast propaganda campaign to portray the now-dead terrorist mastermind Qassem Soleimani as a national hero, his posters were torched and torn in Qom and Kerman. Soleimani is responsible for the death of thousands of innocents in Iran, Iraq, and Syria.

The defiant youths also torched three centers for spreading fundamentalism and Sharia Law in Tehran and Ahvaz. Simultaneously in Sabzevar, a headquarter of Khomeini Relief Foundation, known for looting the people’s wealth, was set on fire.

These are the main corrupt institutions, paving the way for Iranian people’s suppression and looting their wealth. The fundamentalism centers are most hated by the youth in Iran and are established to control the youths and especially young women in the street to follow the mullahs’ medieval rules. For example, the morality police constantly control Iranian women and force them to wear the hijab.

The mains question is, how much longer the regime can stand against a dissent Iranian society?
