Eyewitness reports indicate regime authorities have failed to implement even the most basic social distancing measures for the college entrance exams and the threat of Covid-19 spreading even further is very real. All the while, mullahs’ President Hassan Rouhani continued with his preposterous remarks on Thursday at a meeting with the National Covid-19 Task Force.

“Such a measure, unprecedented across the globe, can first guarantee the health of the students, then their families and the entire society,” he ridiculously claimed. “As we prevented Covid-19 from closing down our economy, delay the college entrance exams or prevent our annual religious ceremonies this month, by strictly abiding by health protocols to guarantee the students’ health, we must not allow any delays in the education of our students across the country,” Rouhani added.

Tehran remains a “highly dangerous and red zone,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Covid-19 Task Force, on Wednesday. “This is exactly why it has been decided to continue the restrictions into next week,” he added. 515 new Covid-19 patients have been hospitalized in Tehran’s hospitals in the past 24 hours, 146 of whom were placed in ICUs, according to the Fars news agency, an outlet affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

The deputy dean of Isfahan Medical Sciences University said that every day, 500 new coronavirus patients are registered in the province, reported Mehr News Agency, affiliated with the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS). The deputy dean added: “On August 19, there were 935 patients hospitalized in Isfahan with coronavirus symptoms, and this doesn’t account Kashan, Aran, and Bidgol. Two hundred of these patients are in ICU and 200 are under ventilator support. The Al-Zahra, which has 750 beds, has gradually entered the coronavirus treatment cycle. In fall the number of patients is forecasted to reach 3,000 and more hospitals need to be added to this cycle. Three pregnant mothers lost their lives due to Covid-19, a 25-year-old mother died just three days ago, and seven other pregnant women are in bad conditions. Under these circumstances, there’s not justification for reopening schools, and the education system only has one option: virtual classrooms. I won’t be sending my own child to school.”

In Fars province, the health deputy of Shiraz Medical Sciences University confirmed 12 coronavirus deaths on Thursday, according to Fars News Agency. “We have 107 critical patients in ICU,” the health official added.

The caretaker of Ardabil Medical Sciences University said, “There are 281 coronavirus patients hospitalized in the province’s treatment centers, and 61 critical patients are being treated in the ICU section. Unfortunately, seven patients have lost their lives in the past 24 hours.” (Source: Javan, August 20)

Yesterday, university entrance exams started and will be held in four days for mathematics, applied and human sciences, language and art. This is while many health experts have warned that the exams can cause a health risk for young students. Pictures and videos obtained from the exams show that no health protocols and physical distancing rules are being enforced on the first day in front of Rajayee university, which puts students at risk of contracting coronavirus.

On August 19, the state-run Young Journalists Club website quoted Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini, the general manager of health insurance in Tehran province, as saying that the coronavirus treatment can cost up to $3,500 for patients.

“Depending on the patient’s condition, the cost of coronavirus treatment ranges between 7 million rials (approx. $30) and 800 million rials (approx. $3,500) for each person,” Hosseini said. “Because of the different conditions of patients, the average cost of Covid-19 treatment has not been calculated, but normally the cost of Covid-19 treatment in normal sections is 60-80 million rials ($260-350) and in the intensive care unit (ICU) it is more than 180 million rials ($870).”

Obviously, with many people living under the poverty line, medical care is not an option. This is while not long ago, regime president Hasan Rouhani had claimed in March, 2020 that the government and insurance pay 90 percent of expenditures of coronavirus patients in hospitals.
