Spokesperson of the regime’s Health Ministry on Wednesday said 199 people have died of the novel coronavirus during the past 24-hour period and 3,411 are in intensive care units, being the highest number of ICU patients since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. She once again said 25 provinces are either in code red or alarming conditions.

“Today, 187 cities are red and 92 are orange, and this is very concerning,” said Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi on Wednesday. “Zanjan has the highest number of people hospitalized. Seven of every 100,000 people are hospitalized on a daily basis, and around six in South Khorasan province…. Most certainly there will not be a vaccine anywhere in the world in the next year or so,” he added, according to the Fars news agency, associated to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“Hospitals have a shortage of ICU beds and we have bed shortages in some of our main hospitals,” said Mohammad Reza Zafarghandi, head of the National Medical Association on Wednesday. “The medical staff are fatigued very quickly, and they are contracting the virus themselves. For example, a few people in the cancer branch of Khomeini Hospital and Sina Hospital have contracted the novel coronavirus,” he said, according to the ISNA news agency.

“We are in the period when the illness continues to spread,” said Minoo Mohraz, a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday. “The number of people seeking medical care in hospitals have increased tremendously and we are currently in a peak,” she added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

Alireza Zali, the head of the Coronavirus Task Force in Tehran, said, “Tehran is facing very special conditions… In the past 24 hours, we hospitalized 890 coronavirus patients in Tehran. Tehran is in a very complicated situation and needs a completely different action plan in comparison to other provinces… The one-week restrictions are not enough and must be expanded to future weeks as well.” (Source: Entekhab, July 15)

According to the state-run Mehr News Agency, affiliated to the ministry of intelligence (MOIS), the deputy mayor of Tehran confirmed 668 new coronavirus cases in the municipality and said, “Until now, we’ve lost 14 of our colleagues to the disease.”

The provincial governor of Alborz province said, “There’s no point in cliché discussions and remarks that are repetitive. In Alborz, 50 people have lost their lives in the past 48 hours… the medical staff are extremely tired… On Sunday, 1,083, and yesterday, 800 people referred to hospitals with coronavirus symptoms… We have 13,000 special patients in Alborz who could be vulnerable, but we have not declared whether they have contracted coronavirus.” (Source: IRNA, July 15)

In Qom, the dean of the medical sciences university confirmed that the spread of the virus has increased by a factor of three to five, according to IRNA news agency. “Until last month, less than 15 percent of tests turned out positive… but since mid-June, the ratio has reached 50 percent,” the dean added.

In Kerman province, the spokesperson of the Coronavirus Task Force confirmed that the number of cases and deaths in the province continue to rise, the state-run broadcaster IRIB reported on Tuesday. “In the past 24 hours, 18 people have lost their lives to this disease, which is the largest single-day deaths in Kerman province to date.”

In Lorestan, the president of the health and treatment network said, “The unprecedented and growing spread of the virus in Poldokhtar county is getting worse and the continuation of this situation will result in a shortage of facilities and different problems for the people and the health network.” (Source: Fars News Agency, July 14)

Head of the Nurses Association in Hamedan province of western Iran said 250 nurses have contracted the novel coronavirus. “Unfortunately, we are witnessing poor conditions and… the rate of nurses per beds in Hamedan province has not reached the necessary standard and Hamedan is facing a major shortage in the number of nurses,” the Hamedan province Nurse Association director said on Tuesday, according to the state-run Alef website.

“It is not clear when Khuzestan will exit from the current code red stats,” according to a statement issued by the Ahvaz Medical Sciences University on Tuesday. “Khuzestan remains a code red province… Twelve cities are red, four are orange and 11 are yellow; we consider the orange cities as dangerous as red cities.”
