Spokesperson of the regime’s Health Ministry said on Monday that 160 people have died of the novel coronavirus during the past 24-hour period and 3,201 are in intensive care units. “The provinces of Khuzestan, Hormozgan, Bushehr, Kermanshah, Kurdistan, Ilam, East and West Azerbaijans, and Razavi Khorasan are in code red conditions. The provinces of Golestan, Alborz, Kerman, Yazd, Hamedan, and Sistan & Baluchistan are in alarming conditions,” she added, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“The number of COVID-19 cases and even fatalities are higher than published statistics because all of the individuals dying of coronavirus do not reach a hospital. Furthermore, most of the tests do not precisely identify COVID-19 cases,” said Masoud Mardani, a member of the National COVID-19 Task Force, on Monday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The numbers that we have been witnessing in the past 75 days are unprecedented and if we are not careful Tehran could return to harsh conditions,” said the head of Tehran’s famous Beheshte Zahra Cemetery regarding the number of people being buried due to COVID-19. “Cemeteries across the country are all in special circumstances and stats in Tehran cannot be compared to anywhere across the entire country,” he added on Monday, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet affiliated to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.

“The coronavirus spread has been escalating in Tehran during the past few weeks, and especially in late June and early July… During the past two weeks we have been witnessing a daily increase in the number of people seeking medical care at hospitals… We are constantly facing limitations when it comes to hospital beds,” said the dean of Iran Medical Sciences University on Monday to the semi-official ILNA news agency regarding conditions in hospitals across the country, especially in the city of Tehran.

The regime’s Deputy Health Minister warned about a possible re-imposition of COVID-19 restrictions in Tehran following the recent rise in the number of new cases, according to a Monday report wired by the Moj news agency.

In Zanjan province, the dean of the medical sciences university confirmed that since the beginning of June, the number of hospitalized patients has grown from 270 to 600, Mehr News Agency reported. “Occupied beds have increased from 20 percent to more than 76 percent… Mahneshan county, Khorramdareh, Zanjan and Abhar are in code-red conditions… We are constantly faced with a shortage of hospital beds,” the dean said.

In Hamedan province, the dean of the medical sciences university said, “The number of hospitalized patients with acute respiratory illness symptoms has tripled, and if it quadruples, we will no longer be able to control the disease because we don’t have enough oxygen concentrators. The hospitals in the jurisdiction of Hamedan Medical Sciences University collectively have 3,200 beds… If 5 percent of Hamedan’s 700,000 citizens contract this virus, we’ll need 35,000 beds… If current patients increase by 10-20 percent, we’ll be forced to hospitalize them in the hospital’s hallways.” (Source: IRNA, July 6)

In Alborz province, the dean of the medical sciences university reported an increase in the number of COVID-19 patients, all hospital beds occupied, and the medical staff are exhausted, ISNA news agency reported on Monday.

In Fars province, the dean of Shiraz Medical Sciences University confirmed that more than 1,000 people contracted coronavirus in one day, Shafaqna news website reported on Sunday. “The capacity of the province’s hospitals is filled,” the dean said.

In Hormozgan province, the medical sciences university declared that the number of COVID-19 deaths has reached 309, the regime’s state-run broadcaster reported on Sunday. This figure only includes patients who had tested positive for COVID-19 in the hospitals covered by the medical sciences university. The real number of deaths in Hormozgan is much higher.

In Ilam province, the head of the sanitation network of Abadan said, “The increase in the number of coronavirus cases is very worrying. Out of every 11 coronavirus tests, 8 turn out positive… Referrals to treatment centers has increased fivefold. The doctors, nurses, and the staff in medical centers are exhausted.” (Source: IRNA, July 5)

In Eastern Azerbaijan, the head of the sanitation network of Bonab county confirmed that out of 3,800 coronavirus tests, 1,300 turned out positive, Fars News Agency reported.

Meanwhile, a statement by the Council of Medical Associations of Iran, which includes 170 medical associations, declared: “The medical community of the country… recommends to the government and officials of the country to use the country’s strategic financial resources and to forgo other expenditures to counter this disease and, in the face of the coming storm, avoid reneging on their moral duties.” (Source: Sharq, July 6)
