Iranian regime Health Ministry spokesperson Kianush Jahanpour said on Thursday that 3,574 new COVID-19 cases were identified in the past 24 hours. This is the highest number of new cases in a 24-hour period during the past four months. In parallel nature, regime officials and state media are describing coronavirus conditions as “horrific in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmed,” “unbridled COVID-19 spread in Gilan,” “a new coronavirus wave in Tehran,” “tip of the illness iceberg in Khuzestan,” “coronavirus alarm bell in Gachsaran” and “a return of COVID-19 restrictions to Kurdistan.”

In such circumstances, Iranian regime President Hassan Rouhani once again placed the blame on the Iranian people.

In Khuzestan province of southwest Iran, head of the Ahvaz Medical Sciences University’s Epidemiology Committee voiced concerning remarks on Wednesday, June 3. “During the past month even the most minimal numbers have been significantly increasing,” he said, according to the state-run IRIB news agency. “In the past several weeks we have witnessed an increase in new cases and there was never a time that our number of new cases would decrease or even stabilize. This trend has unfortunately increased significantly in the past three weeks. As a result, the society is far more contaminated than what we are witnessing,” he added.

A reporter asked, “Some say we need to quadruple the numbers while there are those who say the stats should be multiplied by ten?”

“There are many who believe it is even higher… The stats that we are seeing are only the tip of the iceberg of this illness,” he continued.

The Abadan Medical Sciences University dean reported 114 new coronavirus cases and six new COVID-19 cases only in southwest areas of Khuzestan province, according to a Wednesday report wired by the IRIB news agency.

“The number of people seeking medical care have increased, especially those entering the Imam Hospital. As public areas, restaurants, and … are reopening, we expect an increase in the number of new cases,” said a member of the Tehran COVID-19 Task Force on Thursday, according to the state-run Rokna news agency.

“The situation in Sanandaj in regarding the coronavirus spread and new cases has become a crisis,” said the governor of Kurdistan province on Thursday. A number of stores in Sanandaj are closing once again for 72 hours, according to the Javan daily, affiliated to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

The Revolutionary Guards has acknowledged an “unbridled spread of coronavirus” in Gilan province, Javan reported on Wednesday. The dean of the medical sciences university in this province said, “The increase in the number of patients in the past days indicates the second peak of coronavirus in the province… Unfortunately, the spread of coronavirus is too great.” The dean stressed that of 4,400 nurses and physicians who have been treating coronavirus patients, 1,060 have contracted coronavirus.

IRNA, the official news agency of the regime, described the situation in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad province as “one step away from coronavirus crisis” and reported: “The news of coronavirus in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad is terrifying.” IRNA further reported, “The coronavirus curve in this province is growing at an alarming pace.”

Fars News Agency reported, “The alarm about coronavirus in Gachsaran has been raised,” and quoted the governor of the city as saying, “The situation in this city is code red.”

In Western Azerbaijan, the dean of the medical sciences university said the current situation is “an alarm about the spread of the virus among all people,” and further added, “In addition to the growing number of cases, we have more patients referring to hospitals with critical lung conditions.” (Source: IRNA, June 4)

While several provinces, including Tehran and Khuzestan, are hospitalizing more and more coronavirus patients every day, Javan quoted Massoud Mardani, a member of the Coronavirus Task Force, as saying, “Twelve percent of hospitalized patients die of coronavirus.”

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), had stressed on April 5, “The criminal decision by (the regime’s Supreme Leader Ali) Khamenei and (his President Hassan) Rouhani to order the people back to work will result in countless victims. Rouhani’s directive to resume ‘business and economic activities’ endangers the health of millions of Iranians. Contrary to universally-recognized standards, instead of providing the minimum means of subsistence to the Iranian people by using the funds in economic entities controlled by Khamenei and IRGC, which have been stolen from the Iranian nation in the first place, the mullahs’ regime is sending the Iranian people to the altar of Coronavirus. Incompetence, pilfering, and tremendous class differences under the ruling theocracy aggravate the scope of the catastrophe every day.”

Today, the NCRI president reiterated that after two months, everyone has witnessed the mullahs’ regime is banking on the strategy of increasing human casualties to create a barrier against the threat of uprisings and anti-regime protests. But this barrier will break down and backfire on the regime.
