Iran coronavirus update: Over 462,200 deaths, many provinces reporting escalating stats

Iran, October 22, 2021—Over 462,200 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Friday afternoon local time, October 22. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 124,928 around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 108,264 in Tehran, 37,855 in Razavi Khorasan, 31,410 in Isfahan, 28,345 in Khuzestan, 17,020 in Mazandaran, 16,998 in West Azerbaijan, 16,830 in Fars, 16,130 in Gilan, 13,618 in Alborz, 12,990 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 8459 in Kermanshah, 7765 in Hormozgan, 7412 in Kurdistan, 5249 in Qazvin, and 3515 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Friday as 165 deaths and 11,064 new cases. Furthermore, 4422 patients are in ICUs and 1477 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

“The number of new coronavirus cases in [South Khorasan] province in the past week saw a 37 percent increase in comparison to six weeks ago. The number of people being hospitalized increased by four to six percent,” said the South Khorasan Covid-19 Task Force in a statement released on Friday.

“We currently have 1417 coronavirus patients hospitalized, of which 284 are in ICUs, and 45 are under ventilators. During the past 24 hours 15 people have lost their lives,” said the dean of West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“We are concerned about the future of coronavirus. If this trend continues the next peak is quite possible,” said the deputy dean of Ahvaz Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“During the past 24 hours 266 new coronavirus cases have been identified. The death toll has increased by 33 percent in comparison to the day before,” said the dean of Qazvin Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.

“During the past 24 hours 206 new coronavirus patients were hospitalized and we currently have 1734 such patients hospitalized, of which 180 are in ICUs,” said the deputy dean of Shiraz Medical Sciences University on Friday regarding the status quo in Fars province, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“During the past 24 hours 287 new patients have been hospitalized and 23 have lost their lives. We currently have 1653 patients hospitalized, of which 287 are in ICUs,” according to a joint statement released on Friday by the Isfahan and Kashan Medical Sciences universities.

“During the past 24 hours [Yazd] province has seen 240 positive coronavirus tests. We currently have 448 patients hospitalized, of which 90 are in ICUs,” said the deputy dean of Yazd Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“During the past 24 hours 343 new coronavirus cases have been identified. We currently have 834 patients hospitalized, of which 83 are in ICUs,” said the dean of Kurdistan Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the IRGC-linked Fars news agency.
