“Currently we have 20,000 medical personnel providing medical care, but we need at least 30,000 more. In Iran there is one ambulance for every 50,000 people, while we should be having one for every 12,000,” said the spokesperson of Iran’s Emergency Medical Units on Sunday, according to the Fars news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“The previous peaks lasted around a month or six weeks. The fifth peak, however, continued for 10 weeks and went higher than all previous peaks. We surpassed extremely difficult circumstances in our hospitals. We need to be fully prepared because we may be immensely engaged in the months of November and December,” said the head of Tehran’s Shariati Hospital on Sunday, according to the state-run Salamat News outlet.

“Five hospitals in the southwest areas of Khuzestan province remain engaged with coronavirus. The main problem at hand is the high number of patients in dire conditions that is leading to a large number of deaths,” said the deputy dean of Abadan Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“1397 coronavirus patients are hospitalized across [Kermanshah] province and we have 546 temporary patients receiving Remdesivir medication. The number of fatalities remains high. During the past 24 hours we have lost 18 patients due to Covid-19,” said the dean of Kermanshah Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the Fars news agency.

“During the past 24 hours we have hospitalized 110 people and 18 have died of coronavirus. Currently we have 734 people hospitalized, of which 221 are in ICUs,” said the dean of Qom Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“It is possible for the sixth coronavirus wave to start from the country’s eastern areas. We are concerned about the sixth coronavirus wave to begin in mid-October as the fall season kicks in. It is possible for the lambda and mu variants, initially seen in South America, to begin spreading in Iran,” according to a statement released on Sunday by the Razavi Khorasan Covid-19 Task Force.
