“The daily death toll will not drop below 100 per day for the next 14 days. We have 13 red zone cities in five provinces. Nearly all our border provinces are red zones,” said Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Any type of gathering and special elections rallies will lead to the further spread of coronavirus among the people and result in the next peak in the coming weeks,” said Masoud Mardani, a senior member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday, according to the Tabnak website, an outlet linked to Mohsen Rezai, a presidential candidate and former Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) chief.

“The status quo in Tehran is fragile. Provinces such as Sistan & Baluchistan, Hormozgan and Bushehr are heavily engaged with new variants of this illness and our colleagues are working hard to prevent the spread of these new variants to other provinces,” said Alireza Zali, head of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday, according to the IRGC-linked Fars news agency.

“The fourth wave was far more dangerous than the previous waves, the number of people who contracted the virus and the death rate were far higher. We have yet to enter the tranquility phase and the decreasing trend is starting with much delay and one cannot predict when the fourth wave will come to an end, or if we will enter a fifth wave afterwards or not,” said Nader Tavakoli, deputy chair of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday. “It appears we will be engaged with the fourth wave until June 21. The fourth wave was the largest and longest wave, and the UK variant was the main cause of this spread,” he added, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS)

“From early April when the alarm bell of the fourth coronavirus wave was sounded, to this day most of the cities across the country, and especially the capital, have experienced extremely harsh conditions. Nearly 5,000 are fighting for their lives in our ICUs,” said the chair of Tehran’s City Council on Friday. “Until we reach 70 percent vaccination, meaning 56 million people, neglect regarding any of our health protocols can lead us into a deadly fifth Covid-19 wave,” this official added, according to the state-run Hamshahri daily.

Mohammad Roshani, director of Tehran’s Taxi Drivers Organization said on Saturday that to this day 400 taxi drivers in Tehran have lost their lives to Covid-19. “Special attention is needed regarding vaccination for taxi drivers. I am begging you to pay special attention to taxi drivers because no other sector of our society has suffered so many losses,” he added, according to the state-run Asr-e Iran daily.

“Conditions in Sistan & Baluchistan are red, and we are facing a severe crisis,” said the dean of Iranshahr Medical Sciences University on Saturday. “The number of new cases has increased by 150 percent in comparison to last week and hospitals are reaching their full capacity. With the coronavirus branches in the cities of Iranshahr and Chabahar reaching their 100 percent capacities, we are facing difficulties in hospitalizing new patients,” this official added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
