“We should not think the coronavirus variants from India, South Africa and Brazil have to arrive. There is a possibility of a variant being discovered inside Iran,” said Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Tuesday, according to the Javan daily, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“Each day we have an average of 200 people being buried in the Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery. With the spread of coronavirus there are days that this number reaches 400. We have an average of 170 coronavirus deaths per day. Forty percent of the country’s coronavirus deaths are in Tehran,” said Saied Khal, director of Tehran’s renowned Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery on Tuesday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency. As a result, according to the Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery, during the past 15 months of the Covid-19 epidemic, more than 77,000 people have died of coronavirus in Tehran alone.

Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force referred to a vast spread of the coronavirus across all of Tehran’s District 22 on Tuesday. “We are still far away from firmly controlling this illness. In the past 24 hours we have seen an increase in the number of people hospitalized,” he said, according to the state-run Aria news agency. “During this period 1200 people were hospitalized for coronavirus. Today in provinces such as Sistan & Baluchistan or Hormozgan we are also witnessing an increasing number of people being hospitalized, indicating our southern and southeastern areas are centers of a possible new rise. Tehran, being the destination of many people commuting from across the country, is very prone to a continued epidemic,” Zali emphasized.
