While the Covid-19 catastrophe expands across the country with each passing day taking more and more victims, regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei delivered a 45-minute speech today and did not refer to the issue at all or express any sympathy with the victims’ families.

“Considering the fact that ICU branches in our hospitals are full, currently one of the main necessities for our hospitals are ‘mobile ICUs’. The shortage in special beds is being provided for to some extent by equipping ordinary beds with relative ICU standards and equipment, and a monitor and ventilator,” said the deputy chair of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Tuesday. “Since the number of cases throughout the country is not precise, its not possible to estimate the death rate. The true number of cases is not identified in our country… Right now, we have two types of deaths. One based on positive PCR tests and another based on negative PCR and positive CT scan. Meaning one is a positive case of PCR in laboratories and another is a clinically tested positive case. However, what is officially announced is the number of deaths based on positive PCR tests. As a result, the death toll of those who are clinically considered to have contracted the virus but have a negative PCR test are not considered in the country’s official death count,” the official added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Currently we have 6337 coronavirus patients hospitalized in ordinary sections and ICUs of 108 hospitals across Tehran province. This is an unprecedented record in the number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized since the beginning of this pandemic,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Monday. “1702 people of those hospitalized are in ICUs. Considering the high number of dire patients in ICUs it is forecasted that the Covid-19 death rate will remain high in the coming three weeks,” he added, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“We are witnessing a storm-like spread of Covid-19. It is recommended that we shutdown Tehran entirely and in fact Tehran and other major cities need to be shut down completely for two weeks,” said Tehran City Council chief Mohsen Hashemi on Tuesday. “Otherwise we will not be able to [recover] from the third coronavirus wave,” he added, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the IRGC Quds Force.

“During the past 24 hours we have had 34 deaths due to coronavirus. Currently there are 1499 Covid-19 patients in hospitals across [Fars] province, of which 213 are in ICUs,” said the deputy dean of Shiraz Medical Science University on Tuesday, according to Mehr.

“In addition to those in our ICU branches, around 15 other patients are waiting to be transferred for special care. However, they cannot be transferred due to the fact that all our beds are full. Currently we have 520 hospital beds and they are all full,” said the deputy dean of Neyshabur Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to ISNA.

“The number of those hospitalized has reached 1593, of which 271 are in ICUs and 84 are under ventilators,” said the dean of West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Tuesday. “Eighteen people have died and 12 others who had died in previous days tested positive. The total number of people dying in this province has reached 1884 cases, showing a dangerously increasing trend,” the official added, according to the IRGC-linked Javan daily.

In Khuzestan province, the dean of Jondi Shapour Medical Sciences University said the number of patients in need of ICUs is on the rise. “In contrast to the past few weeks, there is not a single location in Khuzestan that is considered a ‘white’ zone. If this trend continues, we will be forced to request stricter limitations across the province,” the dean said on Tuesday, according to ISNA.

“The cities of Arak, Khomein and Saveh are in ‘black’ conditions. Considering the rising number of cases and deaths, we are forecasting exceedingly difficult days ahead for our province,” said the dean of Markazi Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to Javan daily.
