While protests over the reopening of schools continue, regime President Hassan Rouhani once again resorted to a new series of preposterous remarks. “Our circumstances are different from other countries and regarding measures ending lockdown we should not be compared to other countries. The government and the National Covid-19 Task Force has made the right decision and, God willing, our students will be able to receive education… All the while, we are not forcing any family or student to physically attend school this year,” he said on Wednesday.

“Everyday they resort to new pretexts to cause concerns, exaggerate the status quo and disrupt the people’s tranquility. And they always fail. In the month of Ramadan, they said why do they want to open the mosques while people’s safety was preserved and those who made such remarks were embarrassed. Last month we witnessed the same scenario, and nothing happened. They said the same thing when we wanted to reopen the markets, while we saw that both people’s lives and jobs were protected. These days they were raising the issue about schools and they are incredibly angry that the country is headed in the right direction. People are not paying any attention to their bogus remarks,” Rouhani added.

“Reopening schools when the Covid-19 conditions continue, and without proper research, will result in heavy health and medical consequences. In such a dire decision the government should have taken the opinion of other branches, and the country’s experts in this regard,” said Karimi Firouzjaei, a member of the Majlis (parliament) presidium on Wednesday. “Protecting the lives of students in schools is on the shoulders of the Education Ministry,” he added, emphasizing the National Covid-19 Task Force needs to change its approach in this regard, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

Ahmad Tavakoli, a member of the Expediency Discernment Council wrote on his website Alef on Monday: “More than 30,000 children have been hospitalized across the country during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the risk of coronavirus infection is chasing students.” Tavakoli also acknowledged that 248 child and teenager deaths were confirmed to be of Covid-19.

“The situation of [Tehran] province has not changed, and we remain a red zone with various ups and downs. Up until yesterday 3100 people are hospitalized in our province, of which 1050 are in dire conditions,” said Tehran Province governor Mohseni Bandpay on Tuesday, according to the Javan daily, associated to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“The medical staff of medical sciences universities across Iran are in poor conditions and are practically over-fatigued,” said the deputy of Iran Medical Sciences University.

The spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences University confirmed 185 Covid-19 hospitalized in ICU sections in the province, not counting Bidgol, Aran, and Kashan, according Javan. “In the past 24 hours, 17 patients died with Covid-19-like symptoms, and nine other Covid-19-positive patients have deceased,” the spokesperson said.

In Qazvin, the deputy chief of the Coronavirus Task Force said, “The number of daily coronavirus cases and deaths in Qazvin are higher than the national average. The situation in Qazvin is super red and every day, we’re faced with an increase in the number of cases and deaths. Every day, more and more hospital beds are occupied by Covid-19 patients.” (Source: ISNA news agency, September 9)

In Hamedan province, in the past two months, Tuyeskaran has constantly remained in the list of code-red counties, according to Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the IRGC. “Tuyeskaran county only has one hospital, its medical staff is very limited, and ten of them have contracted coronavirus. The rest of the staff are tired both physically and mentally,” Tasnim reported.

The deputy of the Coronavirus Task Force in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad reported that in the past six weeks, the number of cases in Boyer Ahmad have been 185, 258, 257, 218, 242, and 396, according to Fars News Agency, affiliated with the IRGC. “The forecasts of the Medical Sciences University is that in the next two to three weeks, the number of death in this county will be alarming,” the authority said, adding, “If the virus is transferred to villages, it will become dangerous.”
