Iran police kill two young men for not showing driver’s licenses

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, August 25, 2020—The Iranian regime’s state security forces shot and killed two young motorcyclists on Friday, August 21, in a town near the Iranian capital Tehran for the sole reason that they had not shown their driver’s licenses.

State security forces opened fire on the two men, Alireza Goudarzi, 27, and Alireza Jafarlou, 25, in the town’s Keshavarz Square. Goudarzi was killed instantly and Jafarlou was severely wounded.

Instead of transferring him to a hospital the state security forces attack Jafarlou with batons which led to severe internal bleeding. He died before being able to receive any medical attention.

“State security forces had handcuffed Jafarlou after he was shot and began beating him with batons, punching and even kicking him,” one eyewitness said. “People at the scene who had heard the gun shots tried to help and take him to a hospital However, the state security forces were threatening to open fire on anyone who came close to the scene.”

“It was 4 am and both were passing through Keshavarz Square, returning from a night of work at Jafarlu’s residence, where Goudarzi had carried out some electrical repairs during the night. The police asked them for their driving license but since Jafarlu didn’t have his documents with him, he tried to leave the scene. The police immediately targeted their upper body. Goudarzi died instantly after they shot him in the back. Alireza Jafarlu was also hit in the back and shoulders. The bullet to his shoulder injured his lungs,” the eyewitness added.

“Jafarlu asked for help and that he be taken to the hospital. The police threatened locals at gunpoint and said they would shoot anyone who came close.”

The ambulance came after 40 minutes, but Jafarlu had already died. Authorities refused to hand over their bodies to their families, and they were told to wait for the forensics report.

The families filed complaints against the police, and it was said that the two police officers involved were said to be outside their jurisdiction at the time of the incident.

Jafarlu was a college student and owned a store, and Goudarzi worked as an electrician.

The mullahs’ state security forces and police have a long history of shooting and killing civilians. There are almost daily reports of police and border guards opening fire on Kurdish border porters in western Iran and civilians transferring fuel in southeastern Iran, all desperate to make ends meet due to extreme poverty. Iranian security forces carry out these shootings with impunity.

It is worth noting that in Article 7 of the regimes’ own law on the use of firearms by law enforcement agents when necessary it is specifically stated: “Agents who are subject to this law must target the legs when deemed necessary to use firearms. They must be careful, so that the shooting would not lead to death and other people who are not involved must not be harmed.”
An amendment to this law states, “The State Security Force is responsible to take care of the wounded. They must be taken to medical centers, as soon as possible.”
