Free Iran 2021 rally will send a clear message to the world

Analysis by PMOI/MEK

Iran, July 2, 2021—In little over a week, the Iranian Resistance will hold its annual convention, an event that gathers thousands of people from around the world to support the cause of democracy, freedom, and regime change in Iran.

This year’s Free Iran rally will be held while Iran has seen tremendous developments. The world watches as the Iranian regime has finally shed its threadbare façade of democracy and legitimacy and has revealed its true colors: a brutal gang of criminals that have only stayed in power through violence, terrorism, and corruption.

The regime’s June 28 presidential election was widely boycotted by the people of Iran. The election was preceded by a nationwide campaign calling for regime change and a boycott of the elections. According to documented information obtained by the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), less than 10 percent of Iran’s population attended polling stations and cast their votes. Even according to the regime’s own reports, a considerable number of the cast ballots were invalid.

The message is clear: The people of Iran do not want this regime.

The regime’s new president is Ebrahim Raisi, a former judiciary chief and a blacklisted criminal. Raisi’s takes the mantle of presidency with a long history of brutal suppression of protesters and dissidents. In Iran, Raisi is known as the “henchman of 1988.” He was one of four judges who played a key role in the execution of more than 30,000 political prisoners in the summer of 1988. More recently, as the head of the regime’s judiciary branch, he has overseen mass persecution of families of dissidents and the torture and murder of protesters arrested during the November 2019 protests. What does Raisi’s presidency mean for Iran and the world?

The message is clear: The regime is afraid of boiling rage of the Iranian population, and its only solution to contain the explosive state of the society is to give the reins of the government to a criminal who has a long history of suppressing dissent.

How have the people responded? On June 29, the morrow of the sham presidential election, oil workers in Iran’s southern provinces launched a strike in protest to low wages, poor working conditions, and lack of job security. (It is worth noting that the strike takes place while Iran is dealing with one of the worse coronavirus outbreaks in the world, largely exacerbated by the regime’s policy to let the virus spread as a means to prevent people from taking to the streets.) In less than a week, the strike has spread to dozens of cities and has included workers from more than 70 oil, gas, and petrochemical companies. The movement has garnered support from different communities across Iran and across the world. At the same time, other segments of the society, including farmers, teachers, creditors, and pensioners, have returned to the streets to claim their rights.

Again, the message is clear: The people of Iran know that no one within the regime’s hierarchy is capable or willing to solve their problems, and they will only get their rights through their own toil. It is only a matter of time before another round of mass protests will take place in Iran.

On the international front, the regime shows no signs of cooperating with the international community on its nuclear program. Experts are warning that as world powers dither, the regime continues to advance toward the nuclear bomb. It continues to build and test ballistic missiles. And at the same time, the regime continues to fund and instigate terrorism in neighboring countries. This is happening against the backdrop of protesters in Iran calling on regime officials to stop squandering national assets on its destructive interventions in the region. With Raisi at the helm, there’s no sign of the regime backing down on any of its illicit activities. Regime leaders know that backing down on terrorism, repression, and nuclear ambitions will lead to its collapse.

The message is clear: This is a regime that no longer has the will nor the capacity to cooperate with international norms and values.

This brings us back to this year’s Free Iran rally. On July 10-12, the world will have a chance to see a different face of Iran, one that promises a future for the people of Iran and the world. The Free Iran rally will be attended by thousands of Iranians who support democratic regime change in Iran by the people of Iran. Also attending will be hundreds of politicians, experts, and activists from around the globe who support the cause of freedom in Iran. The Free Iran rally echoes the voice of millions of Iranians who are tired of the tyrannical and corrupt rule of the mullahs in Iran, who want to live in freedom and peaceful coexistence with the world, a non-nuclear Iran that is devoid of discrimination, that does not endorse terrorism, and respects the rights of every single citizen. The Free Iran rally is the voice of the democratic alternative to the mullahs’ dictatorship, represented by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and its president-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi.

The message is clear: The people of Iran want change, and their dreams are symbolized in their resistance movement and the Free Iran rally.

The world has a choice to make. Either stand with the mullahs’ regime and its murderous president, or side with millions of Iranians who want to liberate their country from the clutches of this evil regime. The Free Iran rally is a chance to make the latter choice.
