Iraq’s uprising shatters the Iranian regime’s dreams of establishing a caliphate

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iraq, November 30, 2019—As the Iraqi people continue their uprising into unprecedented levels, and following recent remarks by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani as the highest religious figure in Iraq calling on the parliament to reconsider its support for the government, Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi – known for his very close ties to the mullahs’ regime in Iran – announced his resignation on Friday, November 29.

On Friday, Ayatollah Sistanisent a message read out by his representative during the Friday prayers in Karbala expressing his grief over recent clashes especially in Nasiriyah and forbidding attacks against peaceful demonstrations. He also called for Abdul Mahid’s resignation from his premier post. This is significant because Sistani is the highest Shiite authority outside of Iran and is considered by many as the leader of Shiite Muslims. Therefore, his decree against the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq holds much weight.

Despite the fact that a new prime minister and cabinet have not been appointed, the fact that Abdul Mahdi is being forced to step aside is a major victory for the Iraqi people and a strategic defeat for the mullahs’ regime. It is worth noting that Abdul Mahdi is known also for his very close affiliation to the “Supreme Council of Islamic Revolution in Iraq,” an entity founded back in 1982 under the direct orders of Iranian regime founder Ruhollah Khomeini.

The Iraqi people’s uprising is surpassing a major turning point in this struggle.

Iraqis in Baghdad and other cities were seen celebrating the first major victory of their perseverance. This resignation followed a horrific massacre of at least 46 protesters in Nasiriyah and over 20 more in Najaf on Friday after Iraqi protesters stormed and torched the Iranian regime’s consulate in Najaf on Thursday.

Abdel Mahdi’s sacking has been a paramount demand of the Iraqi people and their uprising, and to this day the mullahs’ regime has used all its power and influence to prevent such a development. As a result, this delivers a significant blow to Tehran and the apparatus of Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force chief Qassem Soleimani.

Ayatollah Sistani called on the Iraqi Parliament to quickly adopt a new election law to meet the people’s demands and pave the ground for free and fair elections. This statement adds the religious elite in Iraq will continue supporting the Iraqi people and will play no role other than providing advice, emphasizing it is up to the people to choose and select the country’s path for the future and no particular figure should have an influence on this process.

Ayatollah Sistani’s remarks are targeting Ali Khamenei

It is quite obvious that Ayatollah Sistani’s remarks are explicitly targeting Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and his methods of ruling a dictatorship in Iran. Abdul Mahdi’s sacking was a red line for Khamenei in Iraq as it delivers a strategic blow to the mullahs’ influence in the affairs of their western neighbor.
