The truth behind Khamenei’s posturing about Palestine

In the midst of the destructive war going on in the region, Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei delivered a new speech in which he tried to hijack the plight of the Palestinian people for his own ends and gloss over his regime’s four decades of betrayal and warmongering to the people of the region, which has come at the cost of millions of lives in the region.

In his speech, Khamenei shed crocodile tears for the people of Gaza and Palestine and said, “This spirit of anger that has arisen in the people will create reactions. No one can stop this reaction.”

Khamenei also tried to frame himself as the leader of the Muslim world by chiding Arab and Muslim nations and warning them to “not fall behind.”

Banking on the inaction of the West and their appeasement towards the warmongering policies of his regime, Khamenei resorted to his usual tactic of issuing threats in order to cover up his own weakness. At the same time, his words hinted at a growing worry that the world is becoming increasingly aware that the threat posed by his regime will not go away without a firm policy.

Khamenei was unable to conceal the deadly contradiction he is grappling with. On one hand, he engages in posturing through verbal threats and terrorist attacks, and on the other hand, he is concerned that the flames of war may engulf his own regime.

On October 21, referring to the regime’s role in fueling the Gaza war, Le Monde wrote, “By blowing too hard on the fire, the danger of the blower catching fire increases if the wind blows in the opposite direction.”

It is no secret that the regime is trying to take maximum advantage by fanning the flames of this dreadful war in order to escape the threat posed by uprisings in Iran. This has been the strategy of the regime in the region, using external conflicts as a means to ensure its own survivals. The regime’s own officials and leaders have repeatedly stressed that if they do not cause wars in Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen, they will have to fight in the cities of Iran. In other words, they are willing to sacrifice innocent lives inside Iran and abroad to maintain their hold on power.

However, another fundamental truth is that what has propelled and enabled the regime on this path throughout these years is appeasement policy adopted by the West.

Throughout its continuous struggle for freedom over the past two decades, the Iranian Resistance has consistently warned against the dangers of exportation of fundamentalism, terrorism, and regional warmongering by the clerical regime. At the same time, the Iranian Resistance has remained the main obstacle against fundamentalism and exportation of terrorism of the regime. Today, it is clearer than ever that there will be no peace in the Middle East as long as the warmongering regime of the mullahs remains in power in Iran. This is the reality that the international community must come to terms with. And the only way to rectify the situation is to adopt a firm policy toward the regime, starting with the terrorist designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), the main force behind the regime’s warmongering in the region.

And the only force that can bring it down is the people of Iran and their organized resistance movement. The brave acts of the Resistance Units and the rebellious youth of Iran across the country is just a glimpse of the capacity that the people of Iran have for restoring peace in the region. And the regime knows and fears this reality more than anyone else.
