At the Free Iran 2026 Summit in Paris, politicians and dignitaries from diverse global backgrounds converged on a single, powerful reality: the Iranian Resistance is the ultimate enemy of both the current religious dictatorship and the deposed monarchy.
World leaders at the summit explicitly recognized this dynamic, acknowledging that the Iranian people and their Resistance refuse to trade one tyrant for another.
British MP David Jones emphasized this sentiment, stating that “the people of Iran reject dictatorship in all its forms. They reject the present religious dictatorship, and they do not want a return to the past of the Shah.” Former U.S. Under Secretary of State Ambassador Robert Joseph summarized this unified international stance with a clear mandate: “No to theocracy. No to monarchy.”
The coordinated efforts by the remnants of the Shah and the ruling mullahs to attack the organized Resistance prove that the PMOI/MEK stands as the definitive barrier to tyranny in Iran.
The “blessing” of the monarchy
During the summit, National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) President-elect Maryam Rajavi shaped the narrative by exposing how the remnants of the Shah act as a tool for the ruling clerics to undermine the true democratic opposition.
Mrs. Rajavi highlighted how the regime itself views the monarchists, quoting a regime-affiliated newspaper that described monarchist activities as an “opportunity” and a “blessing” because they “sow division within the opposition.”

She further noted the regime’s own media concluded that the monarchists “render a service to the Islamic Republic” to help ensure its survival. British MP Bob Blackman reinforced Mrs. Rajavi’s point, noting that Reza Pahlavi seeks to inherit power as a “family entitlement” and has publicly claimed support from “more than 50,000 members of the Revolutionary Guard Corps—the IRGC, the very institution that is responsible for suppressing protesters and killing dissidents.”
Collusion in action: SAVAK and the IRGC unite in Paris
This ideological alliance manifested physically during the Free Iran 2026 Summit, where the current and former dictatorships colluded to silence the Resistance. The French authorities issued a last-minute ban on the original rally location.
Mrs. Rajavi pointed out that the banning of the Paris rally was the “shared goal of SAVAK, the regime’s foreign minister, and the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).” Former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Lincoln Bloomfield, Jr. corroborated this, noting that according to the French court, the police report attributed the bomb threat that derailed the rally directly to “remnants of the dreaded SAVAK security service.”
General James L. Jones condemned this unholy alliance, stating that this “partnership with the regime and halting peaceful demonstrations, the emergence and even the mention of SAVAK is shameful.”
The democratic alternative: Why dictators fear the Resistance
The Shah and the mullahs are united in their hatred of the PMOI/MEK because the Resistance represents the only viable, democratic alternative—a republic that strips both factions of absolute power.
As Mrs. Rajavi declared, “The people of Iran, however, have risen to reject all forms of dictatorship and they will leave no room for the Shah and the mullahs.”

Former Colombian Senator Ingrid Betancourt brought this to life by sharing the words of executed political prisoner Pouya Ghobadi, who bravely declared before being hanged in March 2026: “I reject the mullahs, and I reject the shah.”
Furthermore, former U.S. Ambassador Carla Sands highlighted that because the Pahlavi faction has no actual base inside Iran, they resort to using “images of SAVAK” to harass and threaten those rejecting a return to dictatorship.
Sovereignty belongs to the people
The desperate collusion between the Shah’s remnants and the IRGC is not a sign of strength, but a confession of their mutual fear of the organized Resistance. As former Icelandic Prime Minister Geir Haarde stated, the Iranian people “will neither return to the dictatorship of the Shah, nor will they remain trapped under the heel of the clerical mullahs.”
Ultimately, the future belongs to the Iranian people, fulfilling Mrs. Rajavi’s pledge “to transfer power from the tyrannies of the Shah and the Mullahs to its rightful owners—the people of Iran.”
