Iran, August 16, 2021—In an unannounced televised speech Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei acknowledged that the Covid-19 outbreak has become a "savage disease" that "has become the first and foremost issue before the state today" and is an "urgent matter."
Iran is facing a disastrous and tragic resurgence of coronavirus infection, with the number of covid cases and deaths growing at an unprecedented rate.
After about a year and a half that covid has been killing thousands of Iranians, hospital morgues are full of corpses and hospital branches are full of the covid patients, leading to a national catastrophe.
"With the production of the vaccine inside the country, the path was also paved to import from foreign sources. Prior to that, despite depositing the money necessary for the vaccines, foreign sellers were not keeping their promises," Khamenei claimed.
He is lying through his teeth. Neither were domestic vaccines produced, nor were foreign companies prevented from delivering any purchased vaccines. This specifically lies on the shoulders of the mullahs’ regime as Khamenei himself banned the purchase and import of internationally approved vaccines made in the United States and Britain.

"American and British vaccines are not allowed in the country. I told the officials this before and I say it publicly now,” he said on January 8.
That is why he is the main individual responsible for the deaths of more than 360,000 people, many who lost their lives due to the lack of vaccines.
While the world sought prevention guidelines and began research and development for the vaccine, Khamenei insisted that the covid dilemma "is not such an important ordeal and there have been many such issues in the country."
Now, all of Iran’s 31 provinces are facing disastrous conditions.
"All offices, banks and other administrative facilities will be closed from Monday until the end of the working day next Saturday," said the spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force recently.

The question is why has the tone of the regime officials changed so dramatically? Officials ruling Iran literally used to describe quarantine measures anti-economic, destructive and medieval. The vaccine was called a conspiracy of the West to infect the people and went on to ban the vaccine.
It is clear that for Khamenei and regime president Ebrahim Raisi that coronavirus is not only a danger and an unfavorable situation, but also their ally in suppressing society and countering popular uprisings.
Now, along with high prices and inflation, power outages, water shortages, poor livelihood crises, etc., covid-19 has become the detonator of Iran’s social powder keg. Khamenei and Raisi understand very well that a large explosion of nationwide protests is possible at any moment.

Their frustration and late actions, even if implemented, will be too little too late.
What is happening to the people is the same catastrophic situation that we see in different cities. A large number of Iranians are dying of coronavirus on a daily basis across Iran, and Khamenei and his regime are responsible for this crime against humanity.
