In Stockholm and across the globe, Iranian Resistance supporters stand firm

The trial of former Iranian official Hamid Noury in Stockholm came to an end on May 4. Following the closing arguments, the court announced that the verdict should be expected on July 14.

The Swedish prosecutors are seeking life imprisonment for Noury after 90 court sessions and according to testimonies delivered by witnesses and survivors of the summer 1988 massacre in Iran, and various plaintiffs seeking justice for the over 30,000 political prisoners who were executed in just a few months. Many experts and jurists believe the court’s verdict will be based on the prosecutors’ request following the witnesses’ accurate testimonies that lacked any inconsistencies.

This historic victory of Iran’s Justice Movement has been founded on the epic sacrifice of over 30,000 brave men and women who refused to succumb to the regime’s demands back in 1988. Their courage is the inspiring force behind the exemplary perseverance of supporters of the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and their nine-month long demonstrations in Stockholm, both outside the court building and before the Swedish Parliament. This diligence has caught the eye of the public opinion in Sweden and other countries, evolving into a global platform for the Iranian Resistance in the ongoing struggle to bring Iranian regime officials before justice.

“Supporters of the Iranian Resistance who have ceaselessly demonstrated and marched in the past nine months to urge the world to prosecute the mass murderers ruling Iran for their crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide… Over the past nine months, your gatherings and demonstrations have played a decisive role in defeating the regime’s efforts,” said Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), in a pre-recorded speech to the demonstrators in Stockholm on May 4.

Iran’s Justice Movement continues its efforts despite a long plethora of plots and conspiracies initiated by the mullahs’ regime to derail the entire initiative for its own malign objectives. This nine-month long rally by PMOI/MEK supporters is one reason why the summer 1988 massacre dossier and the execution of over 30,000 political prisoners has transformed into a significant wake-up call for Iran’s society and the international community today.

These men and women have weathered many obstacles and difficulties, devoting their time and energy to stand firm in their gatherings, vowing to continue to be the voice of those who lost their lives. This is also a pledge by these demonstrators to redouble their efforts to raise awareness and declare “Never Again” shall such an atrocity take place in Iran, and hopefully, nowhere else across the globe.

Throughout the trial of Hamid Noury, through snow and rain, sleet and hail, these Iranian expats held their rallies in front of the court, hours on end, in the freezing cold, calling for justice and accountability for four decades of crime. They held pictures of the victims, placards that exposed the crimes committed by the regime’s leaders, including the regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and its president Ebrahim Raisi.

Many of them have lost their loved ones to the regime’s brutality or have directly suffered at the hands of regime authorities in Iran’s prisons. They have been driven away from their homeland for years and decades, yet they have not given up on their compatriots and continue to raise awareness on the plight of the Iranian people and the human rights conditions in Iran.

They are present not only in Stockholm, but in London, Paris, Washington, Toronto, Sydney, and dozens of other cities across the world.

Their resilience, and determination, and their constant presence in every corner of the world is an extension of the resistance of thousands of Iranian political prisoners who sacrificed their lives to keep the flame of freedom alit.

They are the voice of the Iranian people, the brave Resistance Units, the unemployed and underpaid workers, the hardworking farmers deprived of water, the protesters who are lingering in Iran’s prisons, Iranian students who dream of a better future. They are living proof that the yearning for freedom in Iran cannot be killed. They are also a reminder that regardless of global policies, a day will eventually come that the people of Iran will live in freedom, and human rights abusers will be held accountable for their countless crimes.
