Four years later, the spirit of Iran’s 2019 uprising is still alive

Four years have passed since the November 2019 uprising. The endless transformations and struggles of the uprising have proven that it was not a momentary spark, but rather a manifestation of the fiery determination of the Iranian people, which will continue until the overthrow of the ruling clerical regime.

In these four years, the people of Iran have proven that the blood of the 1,500 martyrs of the uprising was not in vain. And neither has the determination of the freedom fighters of that great uprising ceased.

During the November uprising, the people of Iran confronted the regime head-on, and within 48 hours, they presented a vivid image of the possibility and inevitability of dismantling the regime’s integrity. In this confrontation, the people, empty-handed but resolute and prepared to pay the price, pushed the regime to the precipice of being overthrown.

The statements and confessions of the regime’s leaders, from Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei

to other agents and officials of the regime, acknowledge two prominent features of the November uprising: its intensity and organization.

These two characteristics distinguish the November uprising qualitatively from previous uprisings and movements, while also illuminating the path towards the democratic revolution in Iran.

On November 26, 2019, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, the former Minister of Interior, in a television interview, said, “Usually, they were in groups of five or four, sometimes six. There was also a lady with them who both incited and called for protests. ”

He further added, “The social protest quickly turned into security conditions, and the slogans became very aggressive and subversive… 1,076 cases of arson and motorcycle destruction took place. We are dealing with leaders and core groups.”

The inevitable confessions of the regime’s leaders have shown that the strategy of the protesting youth in the anti-dictatorship movement was correct.

The November uprising proved that the only path to freedom is to resist against the regime and overthrow the mullahs rule instead of seeking for passive solutions that involve negotiations with the regime or parts of the regime.

The resolve and courage of the rebellious youth of Iran were so visible and undeniable that even self-proclaimed dissident figures that have been advocating for appeasement toward Iran’s regime had to express admiration for the people of Iran.

After decades that world powers tried to curb the regime’s threats through appeasement, the people of Iran have shown that the only way to establish peace and freedom is through resistance. And they have paid a heavy and bloody price for this. But they showed again in the 2019 uprising that this regime understands nothing but firmness.

The subsequent developments and uprising that flared up three years after the coronavirus proved what the resistance of Iran had stated that, “The November uprising continues, expands, and deepens. It is supported by organized resistance and has a solid foundation. The regime has no solution, way out, or winning card against it.”

In September 2022, the fires of the November 2019 erupted again and shook the ground beneath the feet of the ruling regime. During this latest round of nationwide protest, Resistance Units and rebellious youth sustained the momentum of the November uprising, bringing it closer to its culmination.

If the January 2018 uprising was a sign of the people’s awareness and the declaration of the end of the farcical game between the reformists and hardliners within the regime, the November 2019 major uprising was a testament to the maturity of the strategy of the rebellious youth in challenging the dictatorship of the Khamenei, proving once and for all that only the Iranian people and their resistance movement will bring down this regime.
