Brussels court ruling signals another blow to Iran’s regime, pro-appeasement circles

The Brussels Court of First Instance convened on Thursday, July 28, and extended a ban imposed on the extradition of Assadollah Assadi, the Iranian regime’s convicted and imprisoned diplomat-terrorist. This ruling will keep Assadi behind bars for another two months when a substantial case hearing has been scheduled for September 19.

Assadi and his three accomplices are serving up to 20 years in prison for their role in a thwarted bomb plot targeting the “Free Iran” gathering held in 2018 just north of Paris in support of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and NCRI President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the main target of the foiled bomb plot. The rally was attended by tens of thousands of freedom-loving Iranians and NCRI supporters, along with hundreds of dignitaries from across the globe.

This ruling has once again been another defeat and reminder for the mullahs’ regime and the pro-appeasement establishment across the globe. Those behind the prison exchange agreement between Belgium and the Iranian regime thought the entire process could be finalized in a few hours in complete secrecy. The will of freedom-loving Iranians, and especially supporters of the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), being the cornerstone member of the NCRI coalition, launched a massive worldwide campaign to prevent such a shameful agreement from being implemented between Brussels and Tehran. And to this day they have been successful.

For the shameful agreement Belgian judiciary authorities met with Gholam-Hossein Dehghani, the Iranian regime’s ambassador to Belgium, on March 11 and signed the then secret deal. However, the public revelation of the arrangement on June 30 launched what Belgian MPs described as a “tsunami.” The Belgian government was seeking to keep a lid on this entire issue from June 30 to July 5—which included two non-business days—when the Belgian Parliament Foreign Affairs Commission was to convene, and thus prevent anyone from voicing any opposition.

The Iranian Resistance in its entirety went into full gear

However, PMOI/MEK supporters in many cities across Europe and the U.S. began their campaign from the very first hours of June 30, gathering outside Belgian embassies and consulates. The Iranian Resistance in its entirety went into full gear behind their comprehensive initiative of political, social, and legal measures to prevent Assadi’s extradition to Iran.

This immense political pressure resulted in the July 5 session of the Belgian Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee, which the government sought to wrap in less than 30 minutes, continue for over four hours and be postponed to the next day. Members of the Belgian opposition, joined by a significant number of members of MPs from the ruling coalition parties, described the government’s bill as incomprehensible, illogical, and even dangerous.

Accordingly, the Foreign Relations Committee declared they would need more than 24 hours to evaluate all the texts and discussions brought forward, and to deliver a final document to the Belgian Parliament. Thus, the parliamentary session was postponed to Thursday, July 14.

The global aspect of the Brussels-Tehran deal was made even more evident when the French Foreign Ministry made the following statement on July 9: “French officials are closely following the ongoing discussions in the Belgian Parliament regarding an agreement with Iran… We reacted decisively to the planned attack against the PMOI/MEK gathering that was thwarted on June 30, 2018, in Villepinte.”

The mullahs’ regime, furious over the impact of the MEK-led global campaign, made its complains known to the world. “European countries should not allow (the MEK) pursue their political/media activities. They should not link their interests with the fate of (the MEK),” said the regime’s Foreign Ministry spokesman on July 20.

On July 21 the Belgian Parliament, under pressure from their government, adopted the bill calling for Assadi’s extradition. The MEK, however, pursued their campaigned in a new gear and filed a formal legal complaint with the Belgian judiciary. The Brussels Court of Appeal delivered an initial ruling banning the Belgian government from extraditing Assadi for one week, conditioning the conclusive decision to a court evaluation and ruling.

With Thursday’s ruling by the Brussels Court of First Instance, the mullahs’ regime has once again suffered a major and humiliating defeat in the face of the Iranian Resistance. History shows that the Iranian regime, supported by West’s pro-appeasement establishment, will continue their push to have Tehran’s convicted diplomat-terrorist released from justice.

The MEK and their global network of supporters, however, are determined to prevent such a shameful deal, and intend to send another message to the international community that it is high time to put an end to the disgraceful practice of appeasement altogether.
