Iran’s Resistance Units honor fallen PMOI heroes Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani

One year after the clerical regime executed political prisoners Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani in a desperate act of terror, their legacy continues to inspire a restless population. On July 27, PMOI Resistance Units across Iran mobilized to honor these fallen heroes on the exact first anniversary of their state-sanctioned murder, proving that the regime’s reliance on the gallows has failed to crush dissent.

Defying the regime’s brutal security apparatus, Resistance Units installed flower wreaths and bouquets prominently featuring images of Behrouz and Mehdi in public spaces across the country. These tributes carried powerful messages of resistance. In Tehran and Mashhad, activists displayed messages reading, “Dearest Behrouz, you remain our eternal source of pride.” In Shahr-e Qods, a tribute declared, “Dearest Behrouz, your name and memory remain a guiding light in our hearts.”

In Karaj, a dedicated memorial read, “Dearest Mehdi, your memory will live on forever in our hearts,” while a flower wreath bearing a photo of Behrouz Ehsani was placed at the Behesht-e Sakineh cemetery. Highlighting the deep connection between the martyrs and the broader movement, Resistance Units in Gonbad-e Kavus left a powerful message: “The blood of our martyrs and the suffering of our prisoners converge in you, hero Rajavi.”

The courage of the Resistance Units reflects the unbroken spirit of the men they honor. Behrouz Ehsani, a 69-year-old veteran of the freedom struggle, was arrested in Tehran on December 6, 2022. Mehdi Hassani, a 48-year-old father of three from Zanjan, was detained on September 11, 2022. Both were condemned for “baghi” (armed rebellion), “moharebeh” (waging war against God), and “membership in the Mojahedin (PMOI).” Their true offense was their unwavering belief in a free and democratic Iran.

Both men endured severe physical and psychological torture in Evin Prison’s notorious Ward 209. Their death sentences were handed down by the infamous judge Iman Afshari in a complete mockery of due process, which Amnesty International denounced as “extremely unfair.”

The executions of Ehsani and Hassani were part of a horrifying escalation of state-sanctioned killings under Masoud Pezeshkian, who took office in July 2024.

However, the widespread activities of the Resistance Units demonstrate that the regime’s strategy of intimidation has spectacularly backfired. Before his death, Behrouz Ehsani defiantly declared, “I will not bargain with anyone over my life and am ready to sacrifice my life for the cause of the liberation of the Iranian people.” Today, that profound commitment lives on in the Resistance Units, ensuring that the fight for a free Iran continues in every corner of the country.
