Iran: Retirees, workers, teachers hold protest rallies against government policies

In Iran, anger and dissatisfaction among citizens are growing due to escalating poverty and continual price increases. The Iranian economy faces severe challenges, including deteriorating economic conditions and the collapse of the national currency’s value, undermining citizens’ purchasing power and increasing the cost of living. Additionally, the regime’s foreign policies, which involve supporting terrorist groups and nuclear weapons development, play a role in deepening international isolation and attracting more economic sanctions. Added to the regime’s endemic corruption, these factors further deteriorate the living conditions of the people of Iran, fueling protests and unrests that are increasing every day.

In Ahvaz, retirees from the Social Security Organization gathered in front of the organization’s headquarters in Khuzestan province, loudly opposing the economic policies endorsed by Khamenei. With the slogan “Enough with the warmongering, our tables are empty,” they expressed their strong opposition to the regime’s continued squandering of the Iranian people’s financial resources on regional interventions, support for terrorist groups, and nuclear ventures, which they see as primary reasons behind the economic pressures and worsening poverty in Iran.

The retirees also raised the slogan “Hussein, Hussein is their motto, lying and stealing are their actions,” criticizing the regime’s exploitation of religion and sectarianism with claims of religious and moral commitment, while in reality, engaging in corruption and looting. This slogan highlights the gap between the regime’s religious claims and its actual actions, characterized by hypocrisy and exploitation, increasing the dissatisfaction among the people, especially the retirees suffering from deteriorating economic conditions.

In Tehran, retirees from the steel industry protested in front of the office of the Steel Retirement Fund, demanding their delayed financial rights and better living conditions, reacting to the continuous delays in pension payments. This protest highlights the ongoing suffering of workers in this vital industry.

Also in Tehran, people with disabilities gathered in front of the Majlis (Parliament) demanding better rights and improved living conditions under the slogan “Injustice and oppression are enough, our tables are empty.” This protest sheds light on the ongoing neglect of the needs of this community segment and the significant challenges they face.

Recently retired teachers also organized a gathering in front of the Majlis, protesting the delay in paying retirement benefits and due bonuses. The continuous collapse of the Iranian currency’s value has directly impacted the value of these benefits, exacerbating the economic difficulties for retirees.

In Ilam, workers from the Arghavan Gostar Petrochemical Company organized a protest to decry mass layoffs and unclear conditions regarding their employment adjustments. This protest reflects the anger and concern among workers and their families about their job stability and economic security under the company’s policies and unilateral decisions.

In Shush, retirees of the Social Security Organization organized a protest rally, carrying slogans expressing their dissatisfaction with the current situation and demanding their rights. Among the slogans were “Claimants of justice, shame, shame” and “Injustice and oppression are enough, our tables are empty,” reflecting deep frustration and the devastating impact of economic conditions on the lives of retirees.

In the province of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, students and citizens protested against the construction of the “Mandakan” and “Khersoon 3” dams, expressing concerns about the negative environmental impact of these projects. This gathering highlights increasing environmental awareness and reflects the need for greater transparency and accountability in implementing environmental policies.

In Golestan, small landowners organized a protest in front of the governor’s office in Baharestan, protesting the lack of attention and implementation of necessary decisions that hinder the construction of their homes on land they have owned for 25 years. This issue highlights the local authorities’ disregard for basic property rights and the bureaucratic challenges that obstruct urban development.

In the province of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, housing applicants from the state-run Bonyad-e Maskan housing company organized a protest in front of the company’s local headquarters, objecting to the failure to fulfill promises regarding the allocation of national housing units. This protest reflects the failure of governmental commitments to citizens, increasing anger and dissatisfaction among those affected.
