Iran coronavirus update: Over 487,400 deaths, nurses bearing heavy burden of Covid-19

Over 487,400 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Saturday afternoon local time, December 11. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 130,661, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 114,155 in Tehran, 39,510 in Razavi Khorasan, 33,500 in Isfahan, 29,545 in Khuzestan, 17,760 in Mazandaran, 16,798 in East Azerbaijan, 16,190 in Lorestan, 8017 in Kurdistan, 5644 in Qazvin, and 4658 in Ilam. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Friday as 58 deaths and 1681 new cases. Furthermore, 3126 patients are in ICUs and 286 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

“The provinces of Ilam, South Khorasan, Yasuj, and Yazd have had the highest number of coronavirus patients hospitalized per week, respectively. The death toll among those hospitalized in Khuzestan has been higher in comparison to other provinces,” according to a Saturday report published by the state-run Hamshahri daily.

“We are far from the minimum standard number of nurses per bed. During the coronavirus period in the capital, Tehran, where we have the highest amount of medical equipment, still in our hospitals, there was one nurse for every 15 patients. This is unfortunate and in addition to the physical and psychological damage to our colleagues, the people were also wronged,” said the deputy head of Iran’s Nursing Apparatus on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“9000 nurses have suffered long-term Covid-19 disorders and measures need to be taken to see to their needs. Those who seemingly have surpassed the illness are still coping with the side-effects,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday, according to the state-run Salamat News website.

“The shortage in the number of nurses has been most vivid in the coronavirus period. The entire weight of this shortage fell on the shoulders of nurses. Based on national standards there need to be 2.5 nurses per bed. This figure stands at 0.9 in Ardabil and far lower than the national average,” said the head of Nursing Apparatus in Ardabil province on Saturday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“During the past 24 hours, 107 people contracted coronavirus, and 105 were hospitalized. There are currently 509 patients hospitalized, of which 136 are in ICUs and 31 are under ventilators,” according to a Saturday report wired by the regime’s official IRIB news agency.
