MEK’s internal network honor victims of November 2019 protests across Iran

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, October 28, 2020—With the anniversary of Iran’s November 2019 nationwide uprising approaching, the Iranian Resistance Units, the internal network of the Iranian opposition movement, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) commemorated the martyrs of the protests by installing and holding their pictures, across the country and spread the slogans and messages of Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi and President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) Maryam Rajavi in various cities.

In Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, and Mashhad, the three of the nation’s major cities, banners and posters were displayed reading in part, “Honor the memory of martyrs of the November 2019 uprising,” “Khamenei is a murderer, and his rule is illegitimate,” and “Rise to end the mullahs’ regime.”

The November 2019 protests in Iran erupted when the Iranian regime suddenly increased gas prices. The protests quickly spread to more than 190 cities across Iran. The regime’s answer to the protests was brutal repression. Security forces gunned down 1,500 young protesters in the streets. These statistics, obtained through the efforts of MEK Resistance Units, were later confirmed by Reuters. Many of the victims were teenagers and youths.

The MEK Resistance Units are groups of Iranian activists who have revolted against the current regime. They are small cells of resistance of the Iranian opposition movement, working together to play a leading role in Iran’s protests and had a major impact on organizing protests across the country. This idea is rooted in the Iranian Resistance’s long-held belief that any change in Iran must come from within and by the Iranian people themselves.

In addition to major cities, similar activities were carried out in cities such as Karaj, Rasht, Homayunshahr (Isfahan province), Urmia, Kermanshah, Qaemshahr, Babol, Lahijan, Kish, Dorud, Bandar Abbas, Fardis, and Lorestan. These activities portray the organizational capability of the MEK’s network inside Iran, which inspires millions of Iranians who are fed up of living under the mullahs’ repressive rule.

The Resistance Units also celebrated the Cyrus the Great Day, an unofficial holiday in Iran that takes place on October 28 and commemorates Cyrus the Great, a ruler of ancient Persia who wrote the oldest known declaration of human rights.

Also, in response to the regime’s propaganda campaign with fake slogans organized by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) during the protests, the MEK Resistance Units further spread the message of slogans chanted by the Iranian people during the nationwide protests, including: “Down with dictators, be it the Shah or the Supreme Leader,” “No to the mullah and no to the Shah,” “No to the crown and no to the turban, the mullahs’ end is near,” “Down with Khamenei,” and “We will fight back to take back Iran”.

These slogans echo the Iranian people’s yearning for freedom and democracy despite 41 years of brutal repression, torture, and execution and show that they want neither the mullahs, and nor the return of the Shah.

These activities are very courageous due to the large number of security forces dispatched over the city streets, and while that the regime has increased repression. Recently the security forces have tortured and killed youths in the streets of various cities, which is part of a growing trend of increased violence by security forces aimed at intimidating the public.

Public outrage toward the regime’s repressive centers

Also, in recent days, the rebellious and defiant youth of Iran have targeted the regime’s suppressive centers, including five Basij bases in the cities of Tehran, Karaj, Kazeroun, Afus, and Mobarakeh (Isfahan). The Basij are the most hated suppressive paramilitary force inside Iran and a subsidiary of the terrorist-designated Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). The main role of the basij is to preserve the mullahs’ rule through crackdown measures against protests and demonstrations.

The defiant youth also targeted the city courthouse known as the “Beheshti center” in Karaj, which portrays the public outrage toward the regime’s repression.

The brave and rebellious youths also torched images, banners, and posters of regime officials in Vardanjan and Borujen (Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province), and Kerman. In Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province posters and banners of regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Qassem Soleimani, the now-dead mastermind of the regime’s terror machine were torched. In Kerman, a banner of the ministry of intelligence was burn down.

These measures expose the Iranian people’s hatred toward the regime and their desire to overthrow the mullahs.
