Iran, September 12, 2020—In yet another inhumane measure, authorities of the mullahs’ regime ruling Iran have destroyed the mass grave site in the city of Ahvaz, Khuzestan province, southwest Iran. Many victims of the summer 1988 massacre were buried int this site and regime authorities intend to build a boulevard over this area in an obvious attempt to destroy all evidence of its horrendous crime against humanity.
Supporters of the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Khuzestan province sought to present a documentary report following measures by Ahvaz authorities to destroy the grave site.
After three days of investigations on the conditions of the Ahvaz mass grave site one local truck driver confirmed that the site belonged to PMOI/MEK members killed during the 1988 massacre and buried at the site. Regime officials are carrying out their measures in this area under the pretext of construction work and building a new boulevard for the locals.

There are many such mass grave sites checkered across Iran where a large number of political prisoners executed between 1981 and 1988 have been buried. These graves sites share similarities in being located in very distant areas, having no name or registration, and no gravestones for the victims.
During the past three decades the genocidal mullahs’ regime has constantly sought to destroy all signs of such mass gravesites through a variety of construction projects. These areas are proof of the regime’s horrific crimes against humanity and all officials are very keen in destroying evidence of the past.
Officials had cement poured over two of the sites, both in large square shapes. In some areas local officials have deliberately dumped massive loads of trash around these gravesites to further insult the victims and their families, and distance anyone from the gravesites. The mullahs’ measures are aimed at making people completely forget all memories of the 1988 massacre victims.
In May 2017, the construction project began to build a road over the mass graves of these victims. However, regime officials were forced to postpone their measures as the victims’ families and the Iranian Resistance began exposing measures and expressing deep concerns.
In June 2017 the families were promised a highway will pass through this area, but the graves will remain undamaged. However, in June 2018 local officials in Ahvaz once again began measures aimed at destroying such mass gravesites belonging to victims of the 1988 massacre. Dozens of PMOI/MEK members killed during the 1988 massacre in Ahvaz were buried in mass graves in the Padadshahr area.
Large machinery was used to raze the entire area where a group of political prisoners were buried in a mass grave. It took less than 24 hours for officials to completely level the site and destroy all the stones placed in the area by the victims’ families.
The first group of executed or murdered political prisoners in 1981 were buried three kilometers from the city of Ahvaz. During the years other executed prisoners, including victims of the 1988 massacre were mainly buried int his area. Satellite images make these sites very obvious from above.
