Former minister admits regime massacred more than 100,000 MEK members

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, July 17, 2020—In an unprecedented acknowledgement, the Iranian regime’s former Minister of Post and Telegraph revealed that the during the 1980s the Iranian regime has killed over 100,000 members of the main Iranian opposition movement the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Mohammad Gharazi, the official, told Etemad online on July 15: “An 80-million-strong population cannot be dominated with extremism.”

Gharazi mentioned the regime’s brutal repression during the 80s against the MEK members and supporters and said: “During the 80s we went too far. The MEK announced armed resistance and many of us have been killed and then the MEK went to Iraq and about 100,000 them were killed. The price of going too far is much for the society. The white revolution the Shah announced led to his downfall.”

On June 20, 1981, more than 500,000 supporters of the MEK peacefully demonstrated against the clerical regime in the capital Tehran alone. Hundreds of thousands held similar rallies in other major cities to call for individual and social freedoms. However, on the direct orders of the regime's then-supreme leader Ruhollah Khomeini, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the regime's other suppressive forces opened fire on the peaceful demonstrators, killing hundreds and injuring thousands more. Mass executions of political prisoners started in prisons. The regime killed teenagers as young as 13 without even identifying them.

In the summer of 1988 alone, more than 30,000 political prisoners were massacred in Iran’s prisons based on a fatwa by Khomeini.  The vast majority of the victims were activists of the MEK. A Death Committee approved all the death sentences. One the member of the Death Committee is Ebrahim Raisi who is now the regime's head of the judiciary.

Ashraf 3, which is the home to 3,000 members of the MEK in Albania, houses a historic museum that pays tribute to the hundreds of thousands of heroes fallen for the cause of freedom and democracy in Iran.

Last year, the museum was visited by hundreds of international dignitaries from 47 nations who came to Ashraf 3 to attend Free Iran 2019, the annual convention of the Iranian resistance.
